I'd love to see some of your birds, especially the blues and your birchens.....I can't help it, I love the blues and the birchens, what could be better than having both on the same bird??. If I were closer I'd have some splash girls for you by fall. Doh! I'm not gonna lie....I'm jealous of all you guys that live so close to each other. Most of the poultry people I know give me a look like I just said something completely insane when I tell them I raise Marans. They are not all that well known here.

I won't be able to do pics tomorrow...work the entire day, but I might be able to get some pics in on Sunday before I have to work in the afternoon if the weather holds off. Its looking gloomy and rainy lots lately

that's kind of funny that your little birchen girl is so sassy. I hope she calms down for you. Was she the one that was the single one to hatch out?

wow...that sounds like quite the gash....glad she healed up ok...that's crazy.

X2 on the pics

I'm considering getting in touch with Seabreeze to see if I can "borrow" her blue birchen as a stud cause he's a hubba hubba and I feel like they could have some really nice babies. Anyone have any comments or advice on a blue birchen roo over a blue hen like bluebell on pg 1648? Or would I be better finding a blue or splash roo?

yeah...It is a challenge working with the birchens, but its not going to deter me from working on them. I do believe that they can be more than just pretty yard birds...even if it takes longer

This is one of my favorite bikini pin up pictures... It is nicely tan with rich glow....

This is one hot chick.. Don't burn yourself!!! again... no drooling on the monitor... in fact you may want to grab a napkin before you even open it... It is one of my very favorite outfits... All the guys at our house can barely keep their hands off it.... If you are a leg man... watch out!!

Galavina: I love to hear that... I didn't have the patience to develop that line....I do have genetics available here in oregon... I don't know how my friends are coming on their birchens but I will have a look today.

) There don't seem to be many people working on them. I'm in the process of putting leg feathering on my birds and improving their size...its going really well and the color is improving on the body in a great way so far. I'm hoping these young ones I have growing out right now will put me in a great direction. Every indication so far says they're moving in a fantastic direction.

Let me know how they work because I am having a hard time dealing with all the watering in this heat too!

I bought my birds a watermelon today because I feel so bad for them. . . .

I recently have been converting to nipple waterers. I have all my grow out pens converted to the bucket ones with nipples on the bottom & am going to convert the brooders to the nipples on PVC. My husband is the "worker bee". I come up with all the hairbrain ideas that he is left to make work.....LOL. As it is now all 4 brooder shelves have a stepping stone with 2 or 3 1 quart water jars on top of them. They still manage to get shavings & poop in the waterers even though they are elevated & have to step up to them, but it is much better than having them down level on the shelf. It is time consuming to wash & refill all those jars everyday. The new baucket ones can be refilled outside with the hose from the top with no mess. The chickens took right to them in no time at all. We just installed the buckets & removed the old waterers & watched to see what they did. They took right to them. I think the red color attracted them & their curiosity did the rest.
