Does anyone have any interest in the older marans bantam cockerel? I don't need him if I have 2, or 4 (I hope not!!!) I will just wait out the rest and see. But I don't need the big roo. I can ship him, but you would need to pay shipping costs.
Any takers? He is super gentle and grooms my Silkie rooster's beard.
He does get a little grouchy when you grab him though.... lol.
Cr@p I found another huge snake in the nest box yesterday. Bigger/fatter than the one last week. At first, I thought it was the same one because it was coiled up in the nestbox right next to a hen who was sitting on 2 eggs in the next stall and I couldn't see it good. She was not gonna move for anything. I tried to scare the snake off and he struck at the shovel I was trying to move him with. I didn't see any rattles but I am not the greatest with snake Identity of east coast snakes since I'm not from here lol.
Anyhow it was about 6 feet long and fat full of eggs. He had some brown patches or maybe diamond spots on its back. He first tried to get out by going to the nest box where my Split lav/blk Orpington hen, Diva, was sitting. She is my hen who takes no crap from anybody and she pecked him good on the head! Just about gave me a heart attack. I thought he would strike her but he dropped down to the floor and about that time dh finally came along and chased him back into the woods.
The black snake that I saw last week who ate the eggs right after I had wormed the hens hasn't been back.

MARSHMALLOW.... He is soooo sweet !
Haha thats a good one. I love food names for roosters
Debbie glad you might have a broody. They do practice a little first sometimes. You should see one of the Key West hen's little baby pullets. The momma decided to go broody again for the billionth time (I keep taking her eggs and a week later she is at it again) so she is sitting in the nestbox on eggs again and one little pullet is real interested in what she is doing. So she has been watching mom for a while and mom won't let any other hens or pullets around except for her. Two days ago the pullet decides she is gonna sit on the eggs with momma. This pullet is even not at POL yet. Crazy!! No wonder they overpopulated Key West lol.
