I agree with edgar on them phote 2 although almost looks like pullet but very hard to tell for me. Color is not a real good indicator with the cuckoo marans. I have seen dark and light hens floating around allot, same with roo's. All of yours look like males, they have very large combs and wattles, the way they are standing tall and proud like roo's and appear to have saddle back feathers growing also. Also look at there hackles for pointy tip feathers hens will be normally round although, ever roo is different on when these come in. Just another good indicator. I really watch combs and saddle feathers when they are young and growing and take pictures to get others opinions.

Just came home to find a little BCM chick peepin his head off in the bator. He had pipped early this morning and then nothing. I had to leave as I was finding it difficult to sit on my hands! My first chick!!!!!

This is SO seriously awesome and yes I know the novelty will wear off but it's pretty nice right now!!!

well my young marans have cowed my turkeys into submission with little effort, its not one bully, but the whole breed... i noticed them picking on each other some, i just figured it was because they were roo heavy, are they an aggressive breed?

Can't speak for anyone else, but mine sure are! They pick on each other all day long with little spats. The new members to the flock get bullied for awhile. My hens are way worse than the roos!

I think I may have my first hen going broody, or at least thinking about it. I was just out to feed and put them in the run, and I hear what sounded like an irrate Chihuahua growling in the end nest box!

Go into the coop, and sure enough, one of my older gals is in the box, growling at the other hens that are intently watching her. She had fire in her eyes, and wasn't about to give up her eggs, all of two! We'll see how long this lasts...
