Hello, Muffs....let me be the first to welcome you, but definitely not the last! As you may have noticed, the most activity on this thread is in the mornings....there is a LOT of knowledge on here, so don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have.

THANKS! Cool crosses. Yeah, looks like a cockerel to me too. I had a henny cockerel that went to freezer camp and at 6 months his 'nads were the size of my pinky fingernail still. He was white and for months I was sure it was a huge leggy pullet. Then one day I picked "it" up and my eyes popped out when I saw saddle feathers hanging down behind the wings. It had nasty angel wings/split wings too, so i wasn't terribly disappointed. I think your third one also has a hormone issue going on. Thanks for the pics. I love the light hackle dark beard combo

OKAY!!!! I am new at marans so I need help sexing my little cuties. they are 3-4 months old. Mine are bantams and clean legged.

I have 4 cuckoos, 2 black, and 1 black copper. I know for sure one cuckoo is a roo.. he just started crowing. and well, he looks like a roo!

I think I have 2 roos (cuckoo) one big one and the one little one, 2 pullets (cuckoo) and all black/copper pullets? yes? no? maybe? hmmm.....

Please judge my birds!!!

Dang! Totally not the subject of your post but first crow at 3-4 months. I have 3 BCM cockerels (and 3 pullets) - not bantams. The first one started crowing at 5 and half weeks. All 3 were crowing daily by 7 weeks. Now, just shy of 9 weeks, they are crowing all day long and they are proper cock-a-doodle-dues too! I wonder why mine started so early. No other roos around to set an example either.

You win? there! Mine all start to crow at 8 weeks on the nose, except for one that started at 7 weeks. For some reason your post made me count my roos....

OMG! I've got to be doing some serious chicken math here! There is Roy, Clyde, Pip, Blue Butt, Bump, JR, Billy, Myron, Easter, Yaris, Solo, and I'm afraid 2 more that are just 2 weeks old and as of yet nameless.

Cute! My boys are Willow, Jackson, and Uriah (aka. Curly cuz he has a curly toe). The pullets are Ruth, Bobbi (cuz she only has feathers at her ankles - Bobby socks), and Naima - because she LOVES to sing.

I did get really lucky with my hatch - 50/50 pullets and cockerels. Not so many to cull/rehome.

My EEs and Ameraucanas are trying their crow voices. I've heard one EE and one Ameraucana - once. Just the 3 Marans crowing up a storm.

WHAT are you talking about girlfriend?

I have had many crow in the 2 - 3 week age group...... Not crowing until 8 weeks is like sleeping in until 8 on the weekends

ONLY in my dreams does either happen around here!

Thanks Mel! There IS a lot of knowlege here, and I love learning! I use to live up your direction, over in Yakima, WA, on the desert side, lol. Now I live in East TN, and revel in being able to plant a garden and not have to water it twice a day! Your calf is so cute! Have you figured out if its a girl or boy yet?
