oh Debbi! I'm so sorry about your girl....I hope that the vet will be able to help you out so she doesn't have to suffer....been through a couple of those times with dogs. Hate thinking about it....losing a good faithful dog is one of the worst things for me I think when it comes to animals

to you Debbi. I am positive she has had a wonderful life with you and that if these are her remaining days, she is in very loving hands.

My parents had ducks when I was growing up off and on....I don't remember the breeds, but they were always pretty messy. I got interested in the runner ducks for natural pest control and for teaching my mini aussie shepherd Nevada to herd...and when I found out just how rare they are around this area when they used to be everywhere even 15 years ago, I decided I was going to find some and raise them. I let them run around on the lawn and they do fantastic at pest control and are pretty easy keepers. They don't seem to be nearly as destructive as the chickens. I let them in the garden with me when I am working in there and they really do prefer the bugs to the veggie plants. The other nice thing is that they don't need a body of water...they have a large tub I gave them in their run to play in, but more than anything, they like to act like they are mining for things in the bottom of the water and don't really play in it. Ideally, I'm working on finding some blues and blacks....if I can find them...there are some Lavenders out there hiding somewhere hehe...I don't know how well they would do around here tho...afraid the hawks would be to interested in them

Thanks guys. Yes, she had a simple, but good life here. I promised her, God would let her chase chickens all day long in Heaven. She wants to so badly here, but her earthly body won't let her. Still, she tries. Then gives me the look; "why couldn't you have had these things 10 years ago, Mom??" She will be sorely missed by me and all that knew her. The chickens...not so much.

haha yeah...that would be my reasoning for having muscovies is the mosquito control. I could sure use some this year...the mosquitos are right out of control this season with all the flooding.

and um....uh....thanks for the offer, but no thanks on the pic of the tree rat hehe

hey...did you get a chance to look at my blue birchen boy I posted a pic of a couple of days ago?

Our ducks are messy and a little destructive but not as destructive as those turkeys who trample everything. We have a wading pool for our ducks. They are good foragers and keep the pest down but they will try and eat my little green tree frogs and native green lizards but at least they can climb up high. The toads are unlucky in our yard because the scovies can reach them. We just use the little kiddie wading pools for the ducks. They are easy to rinse out. Our ducks freerange. I tried keeping them penned but yuck!!

Debbie- So sorry about your girl. I hope for both of you she just drifts away. We all know with you her life has been full and comfortable. I pray for comfort and peace for both of you.
