Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Phew, I'm half blind from catching up! You two chatty redheads, you!

Congrats on the 2 babies, Pink!

As for the Columbian Marans and possibly the Ermine, I believe they are already here and being bred. Don't think I'd want to cross them onto anything, as who knows what the heck they came out of, or who was crossed with what? So, someone may get the color, but what else is going to rear it's ugly head from the outcrosses?? Still boggles my mind, that we still don't have decent or consistent BCMs, yet all these new colors keep popping up as "projects". Wouldn't mind it one darn bit if these projects stayed in the backyard of the breeder, but money, greed, and fame always seem to win out, and then next thing you know, there they are on ebay or another poultry auction site as, "rare, new exciting color of Marans!".

Just my opinion, but I'm stickin' to it.

Hi Randy, good for you! I was just reading on another thread, some info on a Plymouth Rock flock that has been closed since the 1920s?? That should tell you right there, it can be done succesfully with good record keeping.

Are you anywhere near where those animals got turned loose from that game preserve?? How sad for the animals, and so scary for the people!

Please understand you can breed your poultry any way you would like. This blue female has one of the worst Combs I have ever seen on a Marans and I have seen some bad combs. She for sure has a SPRIG and mostly likely a Carnation.

I believe that anyone that owns a breed of poultry has an obligation to leave the breed in as good or better condition .

That other chicken in the back does make it look like she has a really bad comb. Maybe a better picture would clarify the comb.

Yes! Ohio has NO exotic animal permit requirement! God forbid you should house a native wild turkey or racoon, then they will need to be permitted! WTH??? Evidently, the guy that owned it killed himself, they aren't sure yet but looks that way, but before he di he let all the Lions, Tigers, Grizzley Bears, Wolves, Giraffes, and others loose! I'd be thrilled if a Giraffe showed up in my yard, I love Giraffes!! Not so much with the others. So far, they have killed 30-35 animals. The Columbus Zoo came in with traquilizer guns, but they are afraid they will take too long to take affect with the stress the animals are under. So sad... I have two of these places within 5 minutes of my house. Had a scary event here about 15 years ago with a large cat. Lock & Load! Told the game warden if it shows it's face, I don't care if it's the last one on the planet, his arse is mine! SSS
