yer the first lol

Did you see the second picture that I just posted. And anyway I just plan to use her for Olive Eggs in the future. But would you look at the next picture of a 10 week old splash and comment on it. I do realize that this bird may be a bit young. Is it a pullet ?

Hey thank you for pointing that out. I think that snowbird did Not see the Wellie behind the big blue. She is the bird in the center and this Pic is better but not the best. Her comb is not great but not horrible either. It is not Carnation but not totally straight either.

I saw the hen behind, Notice the back of the where that is called a Blade is turned sideways and has a few small points on it. This is usually associated with the Fowl that have the Penne influence. This female should not be used in any kind of SOP breeding program as it is a waste of your time and money. If you still feel like using her anyway that is ok too, as she belongs to you.

That other chicken in the back does make it look like she has a really bad comb. Maybe a better picture would clarify the comb.

I was wondering if he saw the one behind her as well. At first it made me look twice, her comb looked really funky but it might be the guy behind her LOL! Posting a good closeup pic of her head and comb would probably help alot. I think she is pretty: nice big and dark blue and look at those feathered legs. She has her snow boots on lol

If her comb is okay I would use her.

When your girls are laying again, if you want to sell some eggs, please let me know. I lost my only good wheaten girl a few nights ago...really bummed now and only have 3 wheaten roos left and no wheaten girls lol.

I have to agree with you Debbi....that's why I feel so guarded about my birchens...until I feel like they are at a place where they are ready they will be staying put here and will be going to freezer camp or my own personal laying pen. I don't mind selling the others like the BCMs for layers but don't market them as such, just as dark egg layers or mixed layers. Now that might change on the BCMs if Gigantor proves to throw some really good offspring

But the birchens are my babies....I want to see them get to where I know they can be...no matter how long it takes me.

X2 on the birchens.
On your question on what to use when making the lavender Marans, the people I know who are working on them (me included) are using pure black marans with a lavender bird of another variety. I got an early generation lavender orp project rooster to use for my lav marans project because they are smaller and not as orp-ish as the later generation lavender orps.

I, for one, do not consider it "money, fame, greed" at all when someone is working on developing a new variety of any breed. To each his own. If you don't like them, don't need to participate in raising them. Easy, peasy!

I believe I read that there are 9 different varieties of Marans entered at Crossroads so Marans are definitely getting some attention.

last count I heard for entries to crossroads is 10,250 birds. I've never been to show that big, and am dying to go, but not this year for me.

I would love to see all the different Marans in one place!

10,250 birds That sounds so exciting. I really would love to go to that as well. Maybe we should all plan to meet at a big show sometime next year. That would give us plenty of time to plan

I would love that! I know they are having a get together at the crossroads with a bunch of people from the MCCUSA club, but one from this forum would be lovely! I'd love to put faces to names and etc!
