sounds beautiful....love my coronations...they are beautiful and sweet!

I've got a pair of Light and a pair of Silver on the ground now that are some of the sweetest things, figured it looked all wrong not to have at least a pair of Coronations LOL. Besides they'll make my Blue and Splash Marans look that much more distinctive

haha indeed...that's one breed i wouldn't mind tracking down is the Silver Sussex. I never seem to have the right timing on them, but they'll have to wait anyways until I get my pens built and set to go on my new project for next spring.

R&H,

Thats a neat looking hatcher/ incubator? Actually, is it your incubator or just a hatching box? if there is such a thing?

I have been in the market for an incubator, so inquiring minds want to know? I also think it would be fun to make one! I am very handy......EXCEPT when it comes to electrical Sh-tuff.

it is made from a cooler, it is the incubator and hatcher all in one. We looked on the how to make thread here on BYC and then my DH went from there. The cooler is probably 2 feet long x 1 foot wide and about 16" high. Most of the top has a plexi glass window for veiwing. It works very well and I am able to keep the temp. adjusted to run with little amount of swing. Humidity take a bit more playing with and depends on what time of the year we are in. We like to run our hatches dry: we keep it around 35% for 1-18 days and then for the final days somewhere between 50% to 56%.

Excellent! I have been thinking of making a bator out of a recycled wine refrigerator(because of the see through door). But will see. May just cought up (Hack!! :-) the funds for a top hatch. Just because I am not that electrically savvy nor do I have time to turn eggs 3x a day.

How dark of an egg does a Birchen Marans lay? Anyone have a picture? Will they get as dark as the Black Copper Marans?

I raise primarily Birchens and they are not nearly as far as the BCMs in egg color. I've heard of people having Birchens that lay super dark eggs, the only problem is that no one has been able to produce photos of the eggs. I also had to learn the hard way getting into the Birchens first with my Marans is that the egg color is exaggerated, because I have yet to get eggs as dark as the ads claimed. This doesn't mean you can't set up a program to work on the egg color tho.

So don't look now but there are some silvers on auction here on byc LOL! I don't know anything about them but these look BIG!

I like the silvers as well but those will have to wait till spring. I already have one cranky neighbor who moved to the country but doesn't like any of the animals or 'farm noises' that go with it. Why would you move somewhere you know is zoned for farm animals and then complain about it?

you naughty enabler you!! haha
I don't want to get any til next spring either as I'm working with limited space til my pen project takes off in the spring. I am going to be using them with my Lavender Silvers to keep the Lavenders from getting to frizzly as I work on them...which by the way...they are more stunning by the day!

I have the same problem with people that move to the country but don't want any animals to be around them...and hate it even more when they have 20 acres to pick where they will put a house...and yet they have to put their house right next to ours. What's with that?

Haha made you look

THey look so cuddly!

I know. Ours came over and complained our geese were too loud. "I'm like Ummmm we don't have geese." Then so he's like, "Whatever they are they are too loud!!" They are muscovies and they don't even quack they only hiss and there's no way he can hear that an acre away so I don't know what he's smokin!! LOLOL I'm really suprised he hasn't complained about the roosters crowing. We are allowed to have roosters so I don't know if he can. A good percent of our other nieghbors also have roosters and guineas and other noisy fowl.
He hates the horses across the street and they are prob about 5 acres or more from him. I am seriously thinking of getting a really stinky noisy male goat. I bet he will hate that.
