These are Blue Birchen girls? wow, beautiful..I even love the over colored girls..very pretty! Thank you. Now let's hope that I get some of the 6 eggs to hatch. I know a couple are viable now, having to wait for the chicks to get larger to see movement in the dark eggs.
I know this person is doing a good job on breeding. She has several rare birds she is working with. I am not going to mention names on threads anymore, been there done that once before. Felt bad that I mentioned a persons name before, because someone had said that those weren't the breed I was saying they were. The person was showing, had been breeding, and selling the breed on BYC for a long time. I just felt bad. So, knowing what I know about this person I bought these eggs from, I'm' not worried about them not being bred well..oh, they are.
And now, I am soo hoping I get some pullets, they are very pretty!

Hello everyone. I am just jumping in here because I am very interested in the Marans breed. I have done a little research on the net and read posts from everyone here and there. I have 7 bcms hens right now that Ibought from a gentleman not to far away. he lost his roo and didn't want them anylonger due to having surgery. Now i find myself in need of a roo however not too sure if this is the color i should stick with... the ladies are very pretty but i haven't gotten 1 egg from them in almost 2 months. may need to worm even though i dont see anything to the poo.. I would love to hear recomendations to wether i should find a bcm roo and a respectable breeder to get more eggs or peeps or if i should try another color of marans. I really want to have a nice rich color and these hens have the ability to do that...just heard the wheatens were just as dark..my little boys would like to attempt to "create" a Blue line from our own stock. what would i need to do that? Bcm and splash? sorry for all these questions just sorta new to this breed and seems like the best place to find answers. Any breeders close to WV please pm me if you are selling eggs or hatching peeps so i can get an idea for early spring thanks!!

Maybe I should have clarified that my "attic" is not in such a way that you can walk up the stairs to the attic type of thing...It is more like "use a ladder to get up to the crawl space on the outside of the house. When I first found this bat guano I didn't realize it's value & just shoveled it out. Once I became savvy to it's use, I put a metal road sign down for the guano to accumulate on. It works great, and I have asked people who I know would be honest about any odor in the house & they don't smell anything. When I got my house the orignal owners had died of old age in it and it took a long time to get that "old folks" smell out of it, but with re-sealing the walls and then painting over the sealer, new windows & trim and burning lots of scented candles, it turned out pretty well for a log house that was built in 1903.

Maybe YOU cant smell it! Because you've become condidtioned to the smell but I would venture to say that others new to the smell would find the fresh smell shall we say...."intersting."
