Hops & Barley, Honey...Hops & Barley....I will consume MASS QUANTITIES of food at Pinkchicks' house tomorrow. I just wish all our BYC friends could be there to SEE THE SPECTACLE or BE THE SPECTACLE! ( I will have my camera!)

I fully expect you intend to share some photos of this honey, hops, barley and Pink food festival tomorrow ??????

OMG!!!! I just called her and she can't find her black oven mitt and the wlole world is going to self-destruct if she can't find her black oven mitt....I would not say that she is even close to hysterics.....but she is not in a real good mood right now and I would rather see her tomorrow evening than try and speak to her tonight...Now, are any of you ladies out there pickin' up what I'm throwin' down....

The air cells on these ones WERE good!!! I was dancing jigs when I candled. The chicks looked good to go at lock down. However, I do feel the humidity was too high for most of the first two weeks. Did they grow too big to pip??? Maybe. I obviously don't yet fully understand how all that works. Not going to be a problem in the future, I hope, because I have a new incubator that will allow me to set a MUCH lower humidity level - which I fully intend to do. I'm a little thrown by the signs of shrink wrapping on the Ameraucanas, however ....

That suggests too dry ....

After trying a few batches in my LG and homemade, I have far more respect for the hatcheries that can get thousands to hatch on cue! LOL

I suspect that home use incubators are not as well made as the industrial types used at the hatcheries, so IMO areas of the incubator could vary. In my last batch I had one chick have it's back feathers glued to the inside membrane. It pipped and didn't zip. After 12 hours, I removed the shell, and gave the bird a bath. It was like it had been smeared with glue and then dried. It was the only one that did this. GO figure. So to havesome that might be too wet/big and another that shrink wraps, just doesn't seem so unusual any more.

SOunds like you will have a better hatch next time. Keep us posted

Forgot to post that I had a really nice THanksgiving surprise tonight. We arrived home from MIL's after dark, and collected the days eggs. ANd one was very dark. I was so excited!! I pulled it from the darkened nest box and YES! my first marans egg! Very cool. My youngest son was excited and took it to show off to older brother. And then I could show it my DH, who was also facinated by it.

We both got good surprises I found FIVE! that is a first. Three the other day then four and now five...... six is next! I really didn't think I would get that many this soon since the weather is changing, but it is still in the mid to upper 60's most days and only a few nights below freezing.

They don't even have lights in their pen.

Way to go!!!! More soon to follow!!!

Barn~ Those little Cuckoo's are adorably chunky!

I still haven't found my other black over mitt and it's making me pretty mad......I can't stand the thought of using the rusty brown colored one. I just can't imagine where it went.

Anyway......I have 2 little cutie batooties blue birchen babies running around in the 'bator. I think one has a leg issue, I will keep watching it and hobble if I must later today. I have one more pip and 5 more eggs so far just sitting there doing nothing.
