Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Woke up to cheeping from a bator, 7 new Marans hatched, Blue Birchen it appears there are 3 light colored sorta white, 3 blue and a black. Will get pictures before taking them outside to the brooder house. The more I read the more I am loving the variety in the Marans colors. We have room for 8 new breeding pens, plans to build 4 soon, so I think aside from my blue Ameracuana we will be filling them with lots of Marans. Besides will need room for all of our sons birds to grow out.

Congratulations!

Sounds like you have 3 splash babies in there with a blue and a black. Do you mind if I ask where you accquirred the Blue Birchens? PM if you like. Thanks in advance.

That's good news, thanks for letting me know. This morning I am looking at them and one of them that only had one affected wing looks as though she has pulled it back up under and it appears to be folding correctly. The other that had both wings affected is still the same and the 3rd pullet is normal.

Ohhh....changed my mind about the genders. Previously I had guessed that I have 4 pullets and 3 cockerels, well it's 3 pullets and 4 cockerels and one of the cockerels has the worst pasty butt I have ever had to deal with since I started out in this wonderful world of chickendom.

They came from April Woodman, mainly because I wanted more color in the eatting egg layers. Now thinking they might get their own pen.

Hubby and I are going to list and sell off all of Call duck breeders to make more room and time for multiple Marans pens. Once sold the CD breeding pens will have their pools removed and those holes wired over for use as grow out pens for chicks. I spent all year collecting my CD breeders, but hubby and I agree we need to support our son with his interest in the Marans. So I am willing to sell off my CD breeders to free up time needed and feed too for the chicks.

Snowbird & Debbi, thanks for the input on the picture I posted, I appreciate it.
I'm betting her eggs will taste just fine no matter what she is
