This is a better photo. I think he makes a better example of the wrong back angle.... and the sharp tail break.

isn't it shocking?!

Yes, it is shocking! I've learned more about faults than good points! And why do they all seem to come all at once?

Maybe it's more of a case of, the more you know, the more you see. Guess that's how it is supposed to be, but oh, some times I wish for the days of "ignorance is bliss"!

haha it really does go that way sometimes tho....considering most big breeders will cull to keep just the top 10% it stands to reason you will see a lot more of what you don't want than do want. Especially when starting out the first few years I'd guess. I'm not sure if I ever had a chance of "ignorance is bliss' with my dad. I remember him teaching me what to cull for before I even went to kindergarten. It was always funny when we'd go to sales or swaps and etc and I was the one picking out the best birds. People sure would give me the sideways looks...oh well. haha

Vicki, you are very fortunate to have had that upbringing! I was/am the only one in my whole family that was ever really interested in animals. Had to seek my own info from others, but I had a good eye for it. I was out with my Mother one time, and she remarked on a "pretty pony". I think I was 10 or 11 at the time, and promptly told her why she was wrong, and shredded the pony's conformation one piece at a time!

She just looked at me, shook her head, and said, "you are somewhat of a different breed, aren't you??"

Yes Mom, you got that right! It's just be in recent years that I started doing ancestry research on my family, and discovered a looooong line of farmers!

It is terrible about your other roo, but the above is just too funny because it is just too true !

I had 9 sold 2.... you know that is just my Marans.... I have 6 other breeds of roos and 15 more that I know of growing up in my shop. I need a rooster pen.... maybe in the spring.

haha awesome! I'm the only child of my parents that is crazy about animals...but both my parents are animal nuts. It does make me feel really fortunate and I do feel like my upbringing was a gift and that I have a responsibility to use what I know as much as possible. Having said that...it doesn't make culling animals one gets attached to any less hard.

I have to head to work now, but will be back this afternoon. I took a few photos yesterday but never had time to load them. They are random shots...like of a couple of my pygmies for Kim that I promised and of that big splash girl and some birchens.... alright. I'm off!
