how old is she? It can happen from time to time on girls, that they will get spurs. Although I can't remember at the moment if it is a fault or a DQ when showing. I think I've only seen it a handful of times on any birds I've raised or my dad's raised.

I believe it's a fault although I was told the judges would appreciate if they were trimmed before the show!!!!

Spurs on a female are just a fault and not a DQ. If you raise enough birds, you will eventually run into a hen that will turn into a male looking bird. It will grow saddle and hackle feathers and develop an adolescent sounding crow. It is still a female, but it will look like a male. I have had three or four do that so far. I have never seen a male chicken turn into a female so far.....I grew up in SF so I have seen humans do that......just haven 't seen any chickens yet.

The hardest part of laying flooring (other than being extremely hard on the knees) is the up and down, up and down to the chopsaw to cut when you are in a space that requires lots of cuts. Lucky you! I'm glad you had an easy time of it.

No kidding! My knees swelled like balloons after I laid my floor. I'm vying for astro turf this time...precut!

that's why I love knee pads....I look like an idiot, but my knees are happy. I've done the vinyl peel and stick flooring before and use that brush on primer stuff before, and then put down the tiles...let me tell ya...those tiles are not going anywhere. Last year I had a pipe burst in the room I put down that flooring, the tiles haven't budged and the flooding in there was pretty crazy

Nope sorry! It's hard to believe that the eggs not in the carton are almost 3 years old and that fact that the eggs in the carton are only almost a year old and they are waaaaaaayyyyyyy darker. I think it's just crazy that they continue to darken over time. I like to study things like that...call me weird. I'm good with it! I like it that way.

I'll have to check mine. I put them in a carton, marked "DO NOT EAT!!" and put them in a veggie drawer in my fridge.

My daughter had asked me why??? Just told her, "well, I still have your baby teeth, how's that any weirder??"

She didn't get it! I've noticed too, that they get darker in the bator, and then get a bit darker after they hatch. Wonder why??

Debbi~ That's not weird....my daughters had fit when I gave them their little individual baggies that had their baby teeth and their belly buttons in them when they turned 18.

I don't know what possessed me to save the belly button thingies, just did. Now whose weirder?

I have kept those eggs in a drawer in my closet in one of those clear see through plastic boxes with a lid. My biggest amazement is that they didn't go bad and become stinkers.

Hey Walt, I had a hennyroo like what you decribe...she/he.... my little drag queen laid eggies though..really nice darkies... Didn't breed her... I was keeping all roosters at the time.... I was SURE she was a rooster.... that is why I am careful not to label it till it crows or lays eggs...

Barngoddess...Now that song is stuck in my head.... Roo looks like a lady!!! dun nu dun nu etc etc etc

Hope all your chickies are nice and warm.... I have some surprises coming up for spring... Only a few more days for winter soltice all!!!! and then 12 weeks till spring... (something like that)...now don't all you perfectionist go looking at the dates and being exact!!! But time to hatch and get the jump on things... busted out the bator.

Did you see what I wrangled up and got to put in the bator for the NYD hatch? Finally, it sure took her long enough to share.
