The feathers that I refer to are the primaries in the wing, both primary flights and secondary flights. My females tend to have primary flights that are the same length as the secondaries when the wing is extended it is easier to see. My males usually have shorter secondaries and longer primaries. After about 3-5 days old it becomes harder to see the difference in the wing.

What is it about getting older that makes him so crabby and bossy? That's what I wonder all the time

Losing our independence or some of our independence can be a very hard thing to over come and accept, so a little crankiness should be expected and is very understandable. I can forsee that I may not be the easiest person to live with when I reach that stage of my life.....but for sure my cantankerousness will keep me spunky and those around me on their toes...I promise.

haha I suppose you are right....but stirring up drama just for the sake of attention drives me nuts. I'm a pretty even keel person and don't like confrontation or anything, but there are times he says things and does things just to stir the pot. Unfortunately its usually at the expense of other people and that's hard for me to handle. Wrong is wrong...especially if one knows its wrong, but does it anyways. just my opinion

Never thought I'd see that one happen! They are all running into the woods and coming back into the yard. Bad Charlotte leading the way into the woods. The 5 chicklets are tearing around the run like the sky is falling, Dopey flapping all the way!

Wonder if there may be an earthquake coming??

hmmm...not sure. All I know is that we are supposed to get more consistently warm temps here for a few days. that's usually enough to stir them up here

Hey, crabby and outspokeness are perks in the later years! Took me almost 50 years to learn to apply the 7 second delay, and now it's gone again!

The older I get, the less capable of BS I am. If I think it, I usually say it. Still, I try not to hurt anyone's feelings, but hey, I've got time yet!
