OK I know when I read further I will find this answer but going to ask anyway.... I have TONS and TONS of the big bubble bubble wrap can I use that for the eggs or do I need to get the little bubble bubble wrap?

Nobody really helped me last year and it still needs to be turned under for next year

But I do want to plant some greens for the birds they are pretty easy and I can surely find something that will grow in all seasons of our gardening time here.

BTW 31 total hatched 1 died, 1 has a bum leg

but that leaves 29 healthy babies. Ordered more eggs then when I was loading the bator with another batch I realized it is almost full (4 doz in there now, ordered almost 5 doz but don't know how many I will get and the bator only holds 7 doz) soooooo lets see if we can build one over the holiday weekend

for eggs coming next week. Got to get some birds OUTSIDE ASAP and process some roos soon.

Donna ~ I think the carton was there just so they could take the eggs out to package them. Kim didn't send hers in a carton. I have had some sent in a carton with the individual wrapping though, and they were fine too. The most important aspect of packaging anything, is to make sure there is enough space between the items and the sides of the box. Fill all voids so that the eggs or any other item can't move around. This includes top, bottom, and all sides. There should be a minimum of a 2" barrier of cushioning between the items and the box on ALL sides. Keep in mind, a conveyor belt will not differentiate between top and bottom, so posting "THIS SIDE UP" really is a moot point. That goes for ANY carrier! Some folks will disagree, but having worked for the Post Office as a rural carrier, I highly suggest you put the following info on the box, in BRIGHT RED OR ORANGE LETTERS! "FRAGILE! HATCHING EGGS! PLEASE KEEP FROM FREEZING/HOT TEMPS!!" Post these labels on ALL sides, top, and bottom of the box. And for your benefit and the customer's, please do get Delivery Confirmation, and ask the clerk/post master to scan the parcel as "accepted" at the time you hand it off to them; AND MAKE THEM DO IT IN FRONT OF YOU! That way, you have proof that you did your job delivering it to the PO. You can track the parcel (sometimes), but it should show as "DELIVERED" when it makes it to the intended PO or house. The cuckoo/barred gene is sexlinked (the female cuckoo can only pass along the cuckoo/barring gene to her male offspring) so this mating will produce all cuckoo/barred males and all black pullets that may show some copper or gold looking leakage upon maturity. You won't be able to see the barring on the males until they start to feather out.

You cannot get Splash offspring unless you are breeding a Blue to a Blue, or a Blue to a Splash, or a Splash to a Splash.

Wow, this is great news for me! So I will be able to tell which are pullets! I am fairly new to chickens, I thought splash was like mutt.

They are very "female" birds. And calm. Although they FREAK when I handle them.

Had another thought. If the barred gene only goes to male offspring how do you get cuckoo hens?

Cuckoo male supposed to have a big sort of blurry spot. Female, much smaller spot, however, as I've learned the hard way - that doesn't always work entirely clearly!!!! I had one with a big spot, one small, both male!
