yeah...its cooler here too...19 right now. It doesn't look like its gonna be too cold, so I'll take it over close to zeros and negative temps and piles of snow anyday!

good luck on the hatch Debbi!

Good luck!

I know we live in very different climates, but I "dry hatch", which is usually @30-35% and they do Better than they did, when I used to fool with humidity.
So - hopefully, they'll be just fine!!

The last time I hatched, I used a semi-dry approach. 35-40% for the first 18 days, then upped to 50% for the hatch. That was my best hatch ever, so I am hoping for it to work again. That said, the last batched was hatched out in the King Suro, which is a plug 'n Play model. This time, because of the staggered hatch, I had to move these 4 eggs to the LG, which has not proven to be as steady. The other 18 will hatch in the King Suro, so I have higher hopes for them.

im gonna be running my humidity lower during hatches this year to see how it goes. im hoping it will work!

Me too with the Marans. I am also going to sand off some of the color by the rounded end of the eggs to see if that doesn't help with the evaporation process. I've heard quite a few folks do this. Anyone here do this??

From what I heard, it was for evaporation purposes. I still need to get a better candler. The flashlight I have is better than the last one, but I need more lumens!! Guess I'll have to eventually plunk down 60 bucks ar so, and get an Ultralite. I've tried making my own, but even with a 100 watt bulb in there, I couldn't see squat on the Marans eggs.

Ok, not enough coffee yet!

I want something bright enough so that I can see veins, eyes, feet, and stuff! All I have to go by here right now, is if the egg is clear, or the black blob is there or not!

All 4 of these had the blob, but I do remember one feeling heavier than the others. I sure don't want to have only one hatch! That is a nightmare, for me and the chick! This one would have to wait 2 more weeks for some friends...
