Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

A lady came to day for 8 pullets and I sold her 14 and a roo!!

Awww - Vicki what GOOD girls!! LOL
Those hens are gorgeous!

If you sent an e-mail today, I didn't receive it - if not, no worries - I'm just starting to get eggs again (though I only got 1 today...) so won't be setting any until I get my breeding sets sorted out!

I'm thinking of started for end of the Jan/Feb, so I can sort the keepers out again before winter.

Still need to do a picture session for the boys, too....they'll just be hitting their stride, when it's time to start really hatching!

Hey Katelyn!

I started on an email to you, but ran out of time before I had to go meet some friends for garden planning lessons. Its so fun to help people with stuff like that! I've been running around trying to get ready for the work week, but am finally sitting down and thought I'd try to get the rest of it written.

That's fantastic you sold so many! I bet that really helped to make a dent in your numbers and your feed bills too! You are on your way!

The sentence above in bold confused me...what did you mean?

Thanks for the kind comment on the girls. They are some of my favorites! I have a few more I want to try for pics of this week while I'm working on getting pens set. I am so glad that most of them have all gotten their feathers back in after their late molt. I will try to get a pic of my big blue girl...she is a birchen, but is hefty like a tank too!

I'd be happy to help you with the boys and if you need an extra set of eyes on the breeding set up, I'd be happy to

Sorry!

I meant, I'm thinking of starting to set eggs end of Jan/early Feb, so that I can get a look at what I'm growing and cull heavily before winter!

I'm not making myself crazy again next winter with full brooders, but worried about putting them outside too soon- even with a light!

I don't know how you work a farm AND a job AND find time to mentor all of these people, including me!!

Thanks so much!

That sounds like a fine idea. it will help you out a lot I think and will keep stress down a bit more.
I don't know that I'm anything special. I just pick and choose the things I think are worth spending time on and for the most part think I can always find better ways to use my time. We all have spare time in our lives, its up to us to decide what we want to fill it with I figure.
Oh, and I sent off an email about your boys for ya

Hey Lisa, if you know the user you are looking for, you can go to the search bar at the top and click on the "advanced search" part and there is a spot to put in a search for a user. Hope that helps

you're so funny! are you a smiley addict? You know over on the $1 feeder thread...the post that guy put up of the golf ball feeder with pvc? I'm going to be making some of those ASAP! That is so perfect for here. I think I'm going to work on finding a way to attach a larger container that sets down in the top of the pvc as a way of holding more feed. A culligan 5 gallon container comes to mind...with the plastic guard removed from the mouth of the jug of course. The other bonus of that is you could see when feed is starting to get low.

Smileys are a GREAT thing!

I've had a few posters get really nasty with me over smileys, AKA emotioncons.

I used them so that they would NOT mistake my BLUNT speach as something else, and dang it all if they didn't think I was being RUDE using the smileys
