Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Smileys are a GREAT thing!

I've had a few posters get really nasty with me over smileys, AKA emotioncons.

I used them so that they would NOT mistake my BLUNT speach as something else, and dang it all if they didn't think I was being RUDE using the smileys

really? i use the smileys too because I can tend to be too blunt, i try to reign it in when I can, but find the smileys can soften the delivery since people can see the intent or tone behind my words

you're so funny! are you a smiley addict? You know over on the $1 feeder thread...the post that guy put up of the golf ball feeder with pvc? I'm going to be making some of those ASAP! That is so perfect for here. I think I'm going to work on finding a way to attach a larger container that sets down in the top of the pvc as a way of holding more feed. A culligan 5 gallon container comes to mind...with the plastic guard removed from the mouth of the jug of course. The other bonus of that is you could see when feed is starting to get low.

I understand the basic concept of the feeder, but I didn't feel that enough feed would really fall through. What type of feed do you use? I use mash and pellets mixed, not sure the pellets would fall.

I feed mash...I will do a test run first on one since I have all the supplies here and see how it goes. I think mash will fall through just fine, just not sure about the pellets. For me having feed as self contained with no entry point for rain and pests is key for me here. The way the wind blows and pushes rain around is ridiculous and the amount of feed the birds tend to waste with different feeders I've tried...this is definitely something I'm going to monkey with. The other bonus of this, if it works, is that I won't have to shut lids down at night and such
