Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

hey, I was wondering if anyone can tell me the dry hatch temps again? I'm having a brain lapse and can't for the life of me remember the temp ranges for first 18 days and lockdown.

Okay so I'm just making sure, no matter what color maran I find they should all have feathering on their feet? I'm looking into maybe getting some of thesei have never had them before and don't know much about them. Are they good layers and are they broody or not? I'm looking at the blue copper marans and the wheaten marans. Does anyone know any good breeders that I could get some reliable eggs from that will breed true to their color? Thank you so much for your help thanks everyone!!!

I run on the dry side and usually try to keep the temp from day 1 to 21 around 99.5 to 100.5 or so. Humidity for day 1 to 18 we try to keep it no higher than 35% and then day 18 till they hatch we try and get it up to atleast 55%- this last hatch it went as high as 64% as the chicks started hatching.

Hope this helps

It seems like as the Standards for each breed are being drafted, they will require the Marans to have feathers on their legs-just the outside toe. I have 1 Blue Cooper pullet that laid 23 days out of 31 days in Jan. Several of my cuckoo pullets just started laying so I don't know how well they will lay yet. I have not had any broodies but know that others have. It depends on each individual chicken as to how good of a broody they are.
Hopefully someone will be able to point you in the right direction as to where to find eggs.

yes it does! Thanks! I don't know why I couldn't remember. Looks like I am running right on track for right now and well have to watch it during lockdown. I am just so excited. I'm also such a nerd haha

I think we all get excited for our hatches, otherwise why would we be doing this! If trying to make sure we do everything to insure the best possible hatch guess that makes us all nerds

haha awesome! do you have anything cookin right now?
we just hatched out our 3rd hatch this year on Feb 7th....we have close to 60 chicks right now counting all 3 hatches. The youngest group of 20 is currently in our kitchen. Bators are shut off currently but I have 6 eggs from my cuckoo girls sitting on the counter

not sure I want to start another group. I still have my group of 6 - 3 month old Marans that have the funky combs- the black cockeral ended up getting hurt and didn't make it. Only have 2 girls in the group and not sure what direction I want to go with them. Hope your hatch turns out great for you.
