PHEW! Hi everyone

Back from the dead, well, that's a tad exaggerated! Caught some Gawd awful stomach bug, and the last 3 days have been yucky and left me weak. Finally had to go to town today as there was no food left, except for eggs! Been eating eggs for the last 4 days, kinda like Bubba Gump!

Fried, poached, scrambled, over easy, hard boiled, egg salad.... I think I've lost my taste for eggs for awhile! On the plus side, when I finally got back on the computer, I had all kinds of requests for Silkies and Silkie eggs! Meeting them all up in the town north of me for payment, and then it's off to the feed store...so much for profit!

Kim, sorry to hear about your business! I swear out here, I've never seen so much building going on, the last 2 years have been booming, although now it seems to be really slowing down. I pray for good things around the corner for you and your family.

Hey Debbi! I was wondering where you've been. I'm glad you are getting to feeling better finally. Sounds like the stomach bug is going around heavily...blech!

Glad you have orders for silkie and eggs! Even if the money goes for feed...at least they are payin for some of their own feed

By the way..its lookin like by the time I'll be ready to get some eggs to you from my birds...they might be ginormous and a half. I can't believe how big some of these chicks are...and I'm pretty sure some of the biggest ones are pullets!

I saw that monster chick a page or so back, wow!! I LOVES the chunkie monkies!! I have got to get rid of some of these dad-gummed roos now!! Had a skunk go through the property a week ago, and even HE wouldn't take one! Sheesh!

Hey Kim, how's about sending me that "clean cull" method?? Pleeeease???

Candled the first 115 eggs, had surprises, the good one, all but one of the Lav lav split Ameraucanas were developing

The bad... I can not see anything in one of my girls eggs, not a drop of light at all

Most like 99% of the cuckoo eggs don't look fertile

So I don't think I have any input for how long they stay fertile... didn't last till I got them home

Becky I will be over this weekend to pick that roo up.... I need him bad! I think I have a load of Marans Eggs that aren't fertile... Guess I will just keep setting till they are

I ordered ANOTHER 400 lumens flashlight as I NEVER got the last one....

I hope that helps, I could use it on the Ameraucana eggs too. SOOOO from 115 down to maybe 50 and maybe not all those will hatch... I don't have good hatch rates with any marans or ameraucans for some reason

Pink that chick with the funky feathers/down thing is not thriving. I have it in with my new babies and it is still about the same size. The others are a lot bigger and in the next size group of chicks. Is that ever normal with your funky feather chicks or just odd? It seems ok, just not growing. ANY TIPS are welcome

The ERs (brown-red/Black Copper) are Birchen based. Still confuses the heck outta me ...

The E stand alone gene (extended Black - separate E gene), not Black Copper so R is not separate.

Does this mean it can still be used for sexlink breeding? On a barred hen for a black sexlink?

Beautiful egg!

Some of my young pure Jeane girls started out like that with the BIG splashes of color and now lay a nice 6.5-7 egg (solid)

BUT, one of my other girls lays a Jumbo round egg with spots all over 7 days a week - same egg every day for the past 4mths.

So....I guess the answer is "maybe?"

Debbi, glad you are feeling better. After eggs for 4 days I'd be out shopping too. Already eat eggs 1-2 meals a day and that gets old fast. A real challenge to keep eggs interesting. Homemade pasta to scrambled eggs with feta and olives to flans sweetened with maple syrup. Popovers filled with pudding or butter and jam. CHallah bread with 6 eggs. Alway on the look out for another egg recipe.
