thanks Debbi! I'm glad you are too! Certainly not looking forward to spring if its gonna mean more crazy storms like this. You wouldn't believe the winds today, they have been out of control.
Oh man! Here too!! 30-40mph gusts all dang day long!! I went north to town today to be nosy. Yup, the gas station was TOTALLED!! Debris everywhere. The Feed store got some damage too, but they should be good by tomorrow, the gas station...ahhhh, no. Got to one point last night where it got really still, then about a minute later it started to hail, quarter sized hail! Then, I kept hearing a dull roar. Kept hoping it was just thunder, but it didn't sound like thunder as it didn't take any pause. And the sound was coming from the south west at first, then switched over to the north east side of the house in under a minute, then was gone. I now think, looking at the gas station, that noise was probably a funnel cloud going over my house, and finally touching down 9 miles north! Usually our storms hit here directly from the west, this one came from the south west. I wish I had taken my camera to town!!! Got to go back up there tomorrow to deliver a chicken, so will take it then. DONNA how did your farm fare??? I am NOT looking forward to any more of this, yet I knew we would pay dearly for a nice winter...
Went out to the run this morning to let the chooks out and feed. Was greated at the main gate by fuzzy butts. Wait, WHAT???? The wind was so strong it opened the gate to the Silkie pen, and I had Silkies running with the Marans! At first I freaked and wondered how many dead or maimed Silkies I would find, but watching for a bit, one Silkie ran back into her pen like.."see I'm good!"...and on the side of the run I see a White Silkie cockerel hunting down one of the Marans girls!
And she was RUNNING!! Can't believe all the roos in the run didn't try to kill him, but he was showing off his machismo with mucho gusto! Crazy little alien birds!!![]()

Donna, I hear ya on the muddy runs! Mine lays flat, with maybe a minor slope to the east, but if it rains steady, I can expect soaking, slosshy, mucky puddles. I threw on my boots this morning to go out to the run, after hearing the deluge last night. To my great surprise, the run was near DRY! All I can think is the wind was blowing so darn hard last night, and the rain was coming sideways, that not much of it landed in the yard or the run?? I surely expected a mucky mess today, but it wasn't the case. And oh, that sound! I have heard it up close and personal before when a funnel cloud passed directly over my house, like now 15 years ago! Me, and two preteen kids, hanging onto a matress, in a hallway, with me trying to hold the bedroom doors closed standing above them, and praying like a preacher in a *hore house! Ripped our roof off, and took a large tree branch from the west side of our house, and literally planted it about 3 1/2 feet into the ground on the east side of the house! Scary stuff, but still I find it fasinating! Praise God for all of our safe outcomes!![]()
