Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Anyone notice the comb on the blue birchen that was DQ for color.

I am looking at post number 31517 and I don't see anything on the comb, but I do see white ear lobes and what looks like a crows head...

What am I missing? ?

I just saw that we are looking at a different birds....

Other than an ugly, and odd pointed comb, no. He does have white lobes though it seems by my monitor. But I do see what I believe is a sprig on the comb of the BTB roo! Or do I??

Now I'm confused! I was looking at two different SB roos?? I still thing the BTB has a sprig?? Hi ya Don!!

Don, I see something that could be a side sprig, BUT the photo is not clear enough for me to tell for sure.

Below you will find the picture that I saved for last.... This is an example of what happens when folks believe that they should bring what ever they have to the show....

There is clearly something wrong with this bird's neck. The bird was not a DQ, so I guess there is no recourse for things like this....
There was nothing noted on the card either... Unless the owner got hold of the judge, they would not understand why this bird did not place....

It may be harsh, but I really hope when I finally get around to showing that the judge takes a minute to denote faults that are glaring like this bird's.

As far as following the judges around to get input on your entries, from what I have observed... the judges work their butts off from the beginning to end of the show.
They are still judging when most folks have gone home for the day.

Nice comb, one too many points, no thumb print, no white in his ear lobe, no split wings, tail the right angle, nice leg feathering, no white feathers anywhere, THANKS VICKI you helped me pick a real winner from my lot and to boot, I got a pullet that lays an egg that is a 7-8 and the others 6-7 so HOPING his offspring will get better egg color. In the Fall I can have new pullets for him that MAYBE lay a nice color egg too. I am kinda excited to see what I get next generation.

The winds from the storm... We had the runs covered with a tarp stapled to the runs with a LADDER (6ft tall step ladder) 2 boards and something else to keep the rain out of my muddy runs... WELL ALL THAT was blown off and on the ground.... those were some strong winds. No damage or trees down that we saw. So all is good. We worked on another run and moved some birds into the fixed one. So now my eggs will not be sooooooo muddy... maybe....
