Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

How old is your blue copper boy? If he is a young cockeral it could be cocci. If older, could be alot of things. Did you check for lice and mites they can get bad in the spring. For bacterial problems it would depend on what the symptoms were. I like Tylan 50. I give 1/2cc injected into the breast.

there's been quite a bit of talk on various threads about worming and what people use. I use Levamisole Prohibit and it works well for all kinds of worms and is really easy to administer. I don't hear a lot of others talk about using it, so makes me curious what makes people pick one wormer over another?

I've used the Ivomec products for years, on cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, pigs, and now poultry. I just stay with what works, and is fairly easy to administer. One product I will NEVER use again is Valbazen (sp?). Had some severe deformities when used on goats, and have never used it since.

I use the Wazine first then wait a few weeks and then use a broader spectrum wormer like Ivomec. I do it in the spring and fall. There are tons of parasites in Florida. I have been thinking about if I should change to something else because I wonder if these parasites can develop resistance to the same medication all the time. How does the Levamisole work?

Levamisole comes in a packet you disolve in a measured amount of water and that becomes your mix solution. I divide it in half with my uncle to keep costs down. You then mix 1 oz of the mix solution to a gallon of water and water the birds like normal and only give them that for 24 hours...then dump whats left and water like normal and then repeat about a week later. Its gentle on them...much more so than others I've tried in the past. Oh, and it covers all the kinds of worms....which I like
