Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Started a thread asking the same question, but thought I'd try here as well.

Does anyone know a breeder with Cuckoo Marans who lay on the darker end of the scale? These are my favorite color variety, but they lack in the egg pigmentation department. Thought about crossing them the color variety that lays the darkest and just breed back to the Cuckoo coloration. Would love to avoid all the generational work and just get some better Cuckoos to start with. :)

Steve has some from the "Fitch" line super dark eggs but they have clean shanks S and S Poultry he's a very nice guy too

and from the pen she is in guess what I got????? I have two little roos that seems to be barred! I will get pictures. They were very brown when they hatched so I tagged them to watch and now they LOOK like they are Copper and Black BARRED! I will try to get some pictures over the weekend. Cool Looking but going to the farm to eat bugs.

BTW the black pullet I hatched from your eggs is MUCH bigger than the blue pullet, but not as big and the splash roo. She finally feathered in nice.

My broody Marans is sticking tight! I moved her and the Plymouth Rock that are broody, both took to the eggs I had in there and after they fought through the fence

and I put a feed bag between them they calmed down and sat like good girls.... tomorrow or Sunday they will get some 15, 16 day old eggs from the bator. The Marans was very intrigued with all the chick noises.... she really wanted on the other side of the fence

I did! They look great! I am having computer issues so posting is a little harder than it used to be.... I read everything just don't reply much.

That's too bad....there seems to be a few people lately that are having posting problems. I hope it all gets cleared up soon! I'm pleased with how those birds are developing. I need to work on getting more photos of others in that group including the possible olive eggers gal, and my newest chicks too. The hatch is coming along great....ended up with 1 chick that got stuck in the shell, 8 that stopped developing at different stages (eggs were too dark to tell) and have 2 eggs that have chicks, but don't know how they will do.....so I left them and we'll see.

Quote: My power supply to the laptop is not working.... may have to replace the Motherboard to fix it. AND my internet speed is dismal.... maybe the motherboard will fix both problems. We will see.... hubby is pretty disgusted with my computer too. I work with the 3 year old on some home school stuff and it really interferes when you computer DIES

I can't wait till my chicks grow up some. You will be getting some pictures to help me pick keepers, but I am going to make the first cuts for egg color. I don't really plan on keeping any roos just yet. I have 2 Blues from Pink and 1 Black Erik. So I think I am set for roos for another year anyway.

ugh...I hear ya on the motherboard issues. My last laptop died that way. It was cheaper for me to buy a new one than to pay to have someone fix it for me. Yuck

I'd be happy to help with lookin at birds....just let me know when. Oh...I need to get some pics of the blue cuckoo chicks I just hatched out and I also have a really nicely patterned Blue cuckoo cockerel that's 7 weeks...only thing I don't like about him is that he is clean legged, but I've got some feather legged girls I can put him over when its time to work on that problem.

Here's a couple quick pics of the clump o' chickies. One splash out of the whole lot this time

Donna, here's the blue cuckoo chicks that hatched. Two clean legged and two feathered.

Alright....need some second opinions on cockerels and pullets....some times the blues throw me just a bit...
