I am culling hard for anything I don't like on leg feathers.... everyone else gets to stay, unless you are a roo they are going WAY early this year.....Then I will cull for egg color and type. I am not going to fool around this year either! I don't have time.

Vicki, you would be proud.... I am reducing my BREEDS.... I sold all my RIR and I think my D'Uccles are next.... pretty sure.... I just don't do bantams.... I am having too many problems with the chicks I hatch so I think I am done.....I am going to have 2 BIG pens for growing out in a week or so and 1 tiny one LOL. I have cleared a TON of birds out of the shop. With this great weather, this is a lot easier. I have some project pullets I am even thinking of selling.... they are not really what I want the to look like. BUT they are really just for layers not breeding. I have some EE that don't lay blue so I am just going to sell them. GOT TO BE RUTHLESS!

Some things I WANT in my birds, Like EE with Muffs and Beards and Olive Eggers with muffs and beards and feathered legs and maybe all BLUE

with GREAT olive color that will breed true..... I like birds I don't have to breed to SOP they are easy, it is just me

Great - I'm here, nursing a kidney stone

That has to be the worst pain ever! My mother had my brother, breach one foot presentation with no anesthesia and she said her kidney stones were the worst pain she ever felt! I felt a few contractions and got an epidural ASAP!

Yes indeedy, I AM proud of you!

You will be relieved in the long run. I also think your methodology you have for this year's hatches and how you handle your other birds is right on. So much less stress and will give you so much more focus on what you do have left and where you want to go!

Thanks guys....

I'm at the agonizing backache and puking stage....reluctant to take the really "good" meds...
been at it for 3 days...

Donna - are you culling for middle toe feathers, too?
I'm trying to decide if I want to cull for middle toe feathers on chicks b/c I do LOVE my street sweepers....

Today, I moved a lot of my birds around
3 to the layer house
2 to a different roo
2 to single cages for egg collection

Plus, moved some all the chicks up a pen and brought the new kids down from the hatcher.

Vicki - I gave the Bryant roo two of the big framed girls, one who is on the darker side.
If things work out, I'm hoping for some larger framed, correctly colored kids!
I have to wait for them to clean out and then we'll see what hatches!!

(BTW so when are you coming to visit???)

EVERYTHING I don't want! Clean legs, middle toe feathers, no feathers on the outer toe, to light of feathering.... If I don't like it at hatch it GOES!
