Maybe not the "norm" but yes it does happen.

I hatched 16 Birchen Marans this spring and have 1 pullet.
My DD hatched 17 Wheaten Ams and has 2 pullets.

Crazy if you ask me...but hey it's an adventure right?

I hatched a few blue cuckoo marans and all were roos

I have had hatches the other way too. Out of 18 chicks I only got 3 roos back in December. The few hatches after that were pullet heavy too so.... makes me think it may have to do with the time of year you hatch.... but who knows!

Oh yeh, not happening here with the roos! I just wonder if he was a slow grower, but that still would not explain his chick coloring. He really didn't even start to bulk up and look mature until just a few months ago. Had never breed anything either, well, except his coffee can which I took away! Since he's been having little romances with the ladies, he has cooled his jets with me considerably. I was telling poor Don this today, and I can just envision the expression on his face, and what he was thinking when I told him all of that..."fool woman, WHY would you keep such a bird???"

Believe me, I've asked myself that same question many times, yet Pip remains.

Don't feel bad. I keep a cripple blue copper rooster who has a deformed foot. He can only use the deformed one to pivot and hops around on the other one which also has a few messed up toes. I let him hop around on the patio and he sleeps up there too lol. His name is Hoppy Toad :D He is a very sweet boy and likes to watch the freeranging girls lay thier eggs. He lets me know when people come up to the house by crowing and cackling. He can't mate any girls cuz he can't catch any and they regard him as a 'nice guy with no sex appeal' lol. He can't even get to the treats fast enough unless I give them to him separately. Poor little guy came from one of my first batches of Bl copper eggs I bought and I had serious incubator issues with low temps and he was born on the 25th day so I'm suprised he made it. Why do I keep him? Because he is my 'poor little Hoppy Toad' and I love him LOL!

What's hatching now, Vicki?? Did you get any storms this morning??

I'm all done with the hatch from the weekend. I ended up with the 59. I still have to get pics.... It's been such a busy last week I feel like I barely can keep up. I have chicks from the birchens (b/b/s), from my BCM roo over my best girls (only blacks and blues this time), and some more from Gigantor/Big Boy. The next batch is 36 b/b/s ameraucana eggs, a gift from my uncle. I haven't candled them but today is day 9. Due on Sunday the 13th. Should be interesting!
No storms here, just incredibly humid and sunny.
