Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Sharing some egg colour with y'all today. Pullet eggs. 25 weeks old. BCM on top, left. She's been working on her's for about 10 days now. First egg from my Blue Ameraucana below it. Some of my hens' eggs on the right (Blue Copper Marans and Red Star) to compare. I truly couldn't be more thrilled!

Barb! That is one, seriously great looking pullet egg!!! I think I'll show my girls just what their eggs should look like! You had better save the next few too and enter them in an egg show! Congrats!!

Ok Barb, here are my 4.5 week old Silkies. The Partridge girl on the far right was hatched from a Splash mom, anxious to see how she develops, and what color she turns out to be! The other Partridge on the left is "woody". He started crowing this morning! One Black, and the rest are Blues.

But more importantly ... any progress at all from the SGs ????

My Silkies will likely get moved outside into their permanent homes next weekend. LOADS of photos of the whole crew should follow ....

I do feel like my egg colour cup is running over at this point, truly. When Ann (my BCM) started spitting out those uber dark eggs, I even had to look twice!

Kelly made SUCH a fuss about laying that blue egg - I'm curious to see how she reacts when the next one comes down the pipes!

Someone had made a comment about egg shape the other day, so I thought I'd show these. Gees, it only took me almost 3 HOURS to get two pics posted today! WTH??

Any way, Kim, these are from your two girls; Charlotte lays the torpedo! Olivia lays a nice, and constantly colored ruby egg, and much more round. Taken inside by a window, natural light, no flash. But, I love to find both types in my egg basket!!

Well thanks, that would be a heck of a road trip for these! I am not pleased with the lack of beards on these guys. Mine tend to show up later, but should have a bit more right now. the cock I am using has some great qualities I want; ie. short back, lots of foot feathering, dark skin and eyes, great toes, and he throws more richer color to the Partridge hens. On the downside, less beard, and in the roo chicks, less crest.

So far, just one Black Silkie has hatched, three more have pipped. NOTHING yet from the SG eggs!

Hi all....
I am visiting in Nashville, TN this week and have heard the TN is a great place for picking up Maran hatching eggs. I would love Cuckoo, but copper or wheaten will work too.... I have 4 marans eggs in the bator now, but I think I will not get the # of pullets I want out of that.
My time is almost up in Nashville, so I thought I would post here to see is there is anyone interested in selling some hatching eggs within 1/2hour of Nashville.
Thanks all
Patricia
