How do you know it's gonna be a Showgirl? My last hatch.....20 eggs......3 SGs
I'm told they don't breed true. Just got a dozen from CJs, go in the bator tomorrow.
afternoon/evenin everyone! I hear ya'll on the chicken math...its crazy what ya can come up with to justify the birds you have. Do have to say tho, after selling that big group of birds yesterday, the feeding amounts sure dropped pretty good! I've got a few to process and should be well on my way to the right direction in terms of numbers. Especially if I take some of the younger birds to the sales over the next couple of weeks. I'm really curious to see what the paperwork/check says from the sale barn tomorrow.

Yes, they do breed true. This gal didn't have hers in with any Silkies. One NN roo, and bow tied hens. Here's the low down on the hom vs het breedings:
NN x NN = 100% NN
NN x Bowtie = 50% NN, and 50% Bowtie
NN x Silkie = 100% Bowties
Silkie X Bowtie = 50% Silkie and 50% Bowtie
Bowtie X Bowtie = 50% Bowtie, 25% NN, and 25% Silkie

I know it takes like 3 days for you to upload a picture but I am FULLY expecting a picture of this special little creature that appears to be defying all the odds!!!!! (You can stare at the chick whilst the picture uploads ....
I picked up a couple of week old marans last week. One black copper and one wheaten. I know NOTHING about marans, specifically, but these two are SOO different. The wheaten (Sugar) has the smoothest feathers, most of her wing feathers and is MUCH larger than the black copper (Hurra).
Hurra's 'shoulder' feathers seem to be sort of a mess. She just looks 'rumpled'. She's also the quietest of the bunch (6 others of other breeds). Is this super docile nature typical of the breed? Could she be bantam?? Should I do something about her feathers??? I keep looking to see if she's got mites or something...
Any opinions??
Thanks,
Debbie
The Wheaten looks good, and looks to be a pullet. Does the Black one always hold her right wing like that?? It maybe just the way he/she was standing when you took the picture, but if he holds it that way all the time, something is wrong. The ruffled feathers could be from someone picking on him from the othe place.
