Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Cad~ I don't know what's going on....but I am having problems posting references about the white enamel stuff. I will try again later.

Donna~ So far nuffin' is going on with my hatch.....haven't seen hide nor hair of 'em. Think I heard a peep yesterday.

Off topic for a second ......Don't have the new BLRW roo yet , waiting for the gal to get back to me.

I agree with Vicki and I personally would cull for yellow in the legs.

Thanks, thats what I figured I would do. Have it on craigslist as we speak. Figured I would check first though. My numbers are dropping fast! My wife is like "Just keep her for eggs!" I tell her I cant keep them all. Dont have room. I want enough room to rotate my stock. Hatch or by some. Keep the better ones and get rid of the worst ones until I have my main flock.

I have a 2 1/2 month old BCM pullet who has GREAT feathering on her toes - nice street sweeper action - except one of the toe feathers is WHITE! I keep hoping she will grow out of it. Anyone have any experience with white toe feathers/ white feathers in general? At what age is it a permanent fixture?

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry at this age it should molt out...and some of my birds have them turn white just before they molt so far they have always come back in the right color....

This is the first time I am trying it.... Someone told me it helps the babies internally pip (If you have them air bubble side up) stops the egg soccer game and makes clean-up easier!
So far I have 9/36 hatched and things are neat and tidy in there...
I will steam up the bathroom when I get home from work and pull out the ones that have hatched and move them to the brooder... more room for the other little peepers..

This may be a VERY stupid question, but do you always hatch in the egg cartons? Does it hamper the chicks in any way?

Katelyn: where is the sale you're going to?

The chick in the tea cup that was on death's door step is fully recovered.... Here he? is....

Pre~ broody hen:
