Not sure on eggs but as far as temperment, I've found that if they are true French BCM with the feathered feet, they are much more docile. I've had others tell me this as well. Mine have been on the quieter side so far.Hello,
I'm hoping to acquire a "French Black Cooper Maran" hatchling tomorrow to slip under my broody silky....but I have some questions about the breed to satisfy my curiosities, if those of you Maran fans can help me![]()
What is their general temperament? Are they quiet or noisier? Approximately how many eggs/year do they lay?
Thank you!

Most of you know I'm still somewhat new to being a Maran owner and that I got mine from a breeder.
My husband and I had the opportunity to visit her farm yesterday to see where our babies were coming from and I was more than pleased! Here is her BCM Roo, the papa of our babies.
He is gorgeous and she definitely takes care of her birds!
He was very docile as well and had no problem with new people being around him. A perfect roo!
I'm even more exited now for mine to get older.![]()
He is beautiful!
well shoot! How did I miss this post earlier! They are lovely Kim! Are they feather legged ladies?
haha...that's good...cause sometimes I wonder about my sanity! haha
When it comes to the finer details of why I do or don't do something with my birds, I probably won't be able to rattle off a bunch of genetic sequencing or etc, but I can navigate practically pretty well haha. I sometimes don't even realize how much my dad taught me until we get to something like this for example. I've always wondered why on blue birds here I never have had trouble getting the lacing to turn out on most breeds I've raised, and why so many others don't seem to have them raised by others. All I know is I'm glad I know how to do some of this odd stuff cause I love me some blues with lacing! They make me happy!
here's some lovely lacing examples on some of this year's hatchlings
