Bump: Y'all tired of reviewing black copper cockerels already

? This is the 6th one, I posted yesterday, no comments so far and I have 5 more to go!! I have got to make decisions on these, I would like to butcher at least 3 hopefully Friday and so far only one is a definite cull, that was the dark one, #10. My feed bill is outrageous and I have about 175 chickens on my property---that is just way too many birds! It is so hard to decide. Thanks.
Pic of the day--I'm a little late today, but here is BCM cockerel #21. I like his color. His comb looks like a 5-point, although 2 points are kind of short. I'm not sure about his back, how the angle is, he looks a little hunched over, that may be from the heat, I am not sure. The blade on his comb does seem to follow his head and not stand away. How important is that? Again, not enough of a tail to evaluate. What do you all think? Keep or cull and why? #21:

Yes, 1 hole would be a single nest and could make as many wide as anyone would want. For a breeding pen would want at least a 4-hole to start.A person could set them up not to trap and just use them to have nice clean eggs and also prevent egg eaters from eating them
good deal, can't wait to see what you work up

I would love to make something like that. Please do post pics and instructions when you get it worked out. I like the idea of trap or not trap as needed.

I am seeing what you are pointing out about how his back looks hunched, could be just because he is hot. In the close up picture of his comb- is there a small crease at the base right above his eyes? Hard to see from the picture. He also doesn't have much of a tail going on. Hopefully others will come on with some help. Would like to see the other 5 to see how they compare to him.

Hi!

Need some advice. I am trying to decide if I should keep this 8 month old blue copper roo, or try for better in our 8 week olds and chicks. We do not have the facilities to keep lots of breeding roos!

I was supposed to sell him, but I'm having second thoughts, as the squirly tail he had when he was younger seems to have corrected in time?! His eyes are still a little dark.

Thought?

Thanks in advance!

He sure is Pretty

You guys are killing me! I haven't taken baby Birchen photos yet.....but I do have a couple photos of Baby Jane Dough. 1 goatie baby looks like all I'm going to get. Loosey and Jane are doing great. Went down to check this morning and there she was.

Birchen photos will follow sometime today.

Have some errands to run in town and must go get silly things like feed and groceries.

Had a semi good hatch with the Copper Marans and a good hatch with the Barnies too. One of the Birchen babies seems to have a get up and go issue, not splay leg, but close. I am going to hobble it this morning and see if it helps.

Okay....hoping the Mods don't mind and I don't get in trouble for posting these in the Marans thread....but Bill was right outside the door the entire time I was with the goaties so it almost counts as Marans related. LOL!
She looks just like her Mommy.

Her size compared to my hand.
Awwwww, so cute!

Has anyone on here ever built a trapnest with roll out front . Been looking at some old poultry books and see several that I think would be handy in a breeding program. Thinking about 1-2-4 holes nests. Anyone have any experience would like to hear. I have the wood working experience.
I've seen a design, Don, where the egg rolls out the back, rather than the front. Maybe you can alter the design. It was here on BYC before the change over; probably still here. ANd I thought someone talked about how to attach the bar doors to the entrance. I had been thinking about trap nesting, but I don't have enough nest boxes as it is. I find 2 girls in one, and another box empty. Mine like to share.

Hello!

My little4 week old BC chicks (they look male-ish. one is trying to crow haha) are growing beautifully. I have 1 named Samson (may Samantha? lol):

and so far is my favorite. He has beautiful colored eyes, nice big comb, and feathery feet. She/He's a sweet cake.

My other cone (trying to crow) his comb is slightly smaller, less feathers on feet, trying to crow, dark eyes (not lighter like Samsons) and his neck is already starting to show copper. (no picture) I named him Copper. He/She is nice too but not as sweet and gentle as Samson.

I am growing them both to see which I want to keep (if they are both male). Sweetness/gentility is a must for me because I have 4 kids. Outside of breeding season and their teens (which I know roos can be aggressive then) a sweet Roo is very important for us. But as far as proper markings etc that has yet to be seen of course.

From my descriptions so far- are these differences still ok? Samson's eyes are light and pretty and Copper's is not, yet Copper already has copper showing up on his neck...we handle them frequently as I want all my chickens to be ok being handled.

Thank you for your input!

That can't be your hand in the pic...you don't own anything other than pink clothing....OMG! It rained & blew here last night! Tippy-dog got so cold that I had to add a down comforter on top of the bed! It is 1:10PM and I have 55 degrees &, a pretty stiff breeze, and it's looking like more rain any minute...
