Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Took some pics today of some of my young cockerels:

These are the 3 guys you saw exactly a month ago:
(I think they're in the same order)

Cockerel #1

His leg feathers are better than they were, but still not down the outer toe and not my normal street sweeper

Right now, not liking how abrubtly his tail leaves his back...and the fuzzies at the base of his tail

Cockerel #2
He's the youngest by a month

Cockerel #3

This guy is right in the middle - 2wks younger than #1, 2wks older than #2

He has street sweepers with no middle toe feathers or fuzz, like #2
He's hard to get a pic of b/c he likes to be in my lap!

I don't think I've posted this guy - he's out with my free rangers

What say ye?
My heart isn't set on any of them!
Bringing this back to the top!

He looks to be holding his wings funny or is he getting new ones in? Also on the 3rd picture from the bottom it looks like there are some white streaks on his chest closer to his throat- or is that just the way the picture shows?

I'm not sure about the way he is holding his wings. There is no white on his chest, that is just light reflection. What about his comb?

I like the color on all your cockerels.
Check out the tail on #1, it seems to be listing off to the left.
#2 looks like he has those dang thumbprints in his comb, that is just a fault. I really don't like the wrinkling in the comb on #3, down by his beak, but I like his color. Check out the blade on the comb of your free ranger--is that a sprig towards the bottom of the blade? His comb also leans, other than that I like him.

Everybody must be taking the day off, I haven't had much feedback on mine, either. Hope Don or others get back online this evening, I'd like to know whether or not to include #17 or #48 of mine with the butcher run tomorrow.

Hi Pinkchick,
The only person I know working with Columbian Marans ( same coloring as Light Sussex) is paintedbones. Lynnrae Troples in Pennsylvania. She been working wiht them for about 7 years now, at least. She has an art gallery page called Painted Bones. I think she can also be reached thru http://www.hpbaa.com website. Maybe others are also working on them but she is the only one I know of.
Best,
Karen

Thanks!
Everyone must be outside, now that it's back to normal temperatures!

I'll go check them out, but I know for certain there are no sprigs and there were no wry tails (but I'll check again!)
- I noticed that the free ranger has some sort of wrinkle in the bottom of the blade, but no sprigs - ?? -
That's a new one for me!

#3 doesn't have a twist in the comb, so I don't know what the wrinkles are...??
Does it mean anything or is it just aesthetic?

For #17, I think Don said the point on the blade is a no - ?? -

He's nice and chunky!
He's rather dark and you should check to be sure he doesn't have a split wing on the left

Other than that, the missing tail totally throws me off!
I don't have enough experience in conformation to say...

As for #48, he looks a lot younger...maybe some more time to grow
He has a pretty weird comb in the back half..

Take my assessments with a grain of salt as I'm still learning, but I think I remember you had some others that were nice AND had a decent comb -?? -
