The three pullets seem to have real good type from what I can see. As long as the copper stays on the hackle feathers you will be ok with these. The black will not show as BC. Some show them as Black Marans if they have no Copper.

Hi All, I'm looking for some input. The same cockerel in the the first two photos- his backend was up-wind so his tailfeathers are held way high. I am looking more for color/marking input- he is 4 months old. Same with the pullet, 4 months old, I have some pullets with more copper and some with less. Thanks for all your input.
Will say the tail does not look as bad in this picture. I still believe it will be too high when it molts in fully. As dark as he is I would not breed to the pullets , does his ear lobe have some white also ? I really like the Marans type you have on the pullets.
Study the faults thread for Marans and familiarize yourself with the Marans faults and DQs. Most of the faults will breed forward. Just have to pick your battles. Thanks, I guess I'm in the market for a new stud bird. I'll check the earlobe but I don't remember seeing any. My cockerel numbers have really dropped. 1 with a flopped comb, 1 with a white primary, and this guy with his tail. Drat! Thanks though. Thats what I'm looking for.
