So sorry to hear about your losses....that's really hard, especially when it happens night after night.

We lost @12 meaties to a racoon over 3 day's time.
luckily he was greedy - got him in a humane trap using cat food!!

What a run of bad luck with predators you have had

good luck! My guess is raccoon.

We found a lose board in my Marans breeding pen today. Don't know what happened, but looked like it had been pulled open. We secured it with 2 LONG screws.

The one that I dropped hatched and was the ugliest little silkie cross bantam ameraucana, but grew to be one heck of a broody. Aww back in the day of having a silkie. I did love that little rooster.

Can anyone post pics of the three hackle colors? I'm making a big assumption here, that the hackle colors are more likely to be of the three choices while the back and wingbow(?) is mahogany ?

Particularly looking for mahogany. Perhaps post it on the BCM thread as that's the current discussion.

The hackles and saddle feathers should be the same color. Mahogany is NOT desired.

This is from the Marans Club site

Cock : Black-breasted red, with parsimonious red spotting on the breast. Having a black wing triangle. The red markings are not to be yellow or mahogany. Copper colored lancets in the neck hackle & the back. Deep red shoulders.

NECK:
Hackle -- Lustrous deep copper, neither yellow nor mahogany. Some feathers, especially in the lower hackle, may include a narrow dark stripe through the middle of each feather, terminating in a point near its lower extremity.
Front of neck -- Black with markings of deep copper.

BACK: Lustrous deep copper.
Saddle -- Same as hackle.

Wings—Shoulders : Black.
Fronts : Black.
Bows : Deep russet red.
Coverts : Lustrous black.
Primaries : Black.

so sorry 2 hear about your loss, we had a raccoon a few moaths ago, it came back the 2nd day & I caught it in he act but not before it took 2 of my birds!! I hope u find whatever it is that's getting in your coops!!
