Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

And yes, I will contact the people that are already on my waiting list. Veterinarian references will be required.

What in the WORLD...??? um....yeah....I don't even know where to start.

WTH ? ?? What vet is going to provide a reference to own a chicken?
I have a hard enough time finding a vet that will even treat a chicken.....

I don't know if the ad brings to mind a mental picture of someone that belongs on a hoarder episode OR someone that belongs on a CSI episode, maybe even an old episode of the twilight zone....

JUST STRANGE

Hi Ms.Wynette! Ummmmmm is all I can come up to say to that posting as well..........do you suppose this person can teach me how to breed for pullets only? :D

X 2!

I think I am still the QUEEN when it comes to hatching males! I'd be willing to carry the little chickies in an apron pocket if it would help turn them into females!

I have a question, not sure I have seen the answer. I know white underfluff is not good, but is that before a molt? I was looking at my pullets today to move them and one blue girl had white underfluff. Kinda like 1/2 blue and 1/2 white. That maybe normal on blues, I don't know.

Don if you are out there, I got pics of my 2 GNH roos and I would like for you to look at them and tell me what is going on. They both look like they have split wing, but one for sure does not, they just don't pull their feathers in tight. I moved the best boy out with the pullets so he could have more space to exercise his wings. Anyway, I will get you those pics. I left my camera at the farm

I have more Marans pullet for you too Vicki. I looked them over pretty well. One has split wing so she is going up for sale as a layer.

Hey Lisa! Long time no see!

I have to agree with you....the references from a vet to me was the strangest part of that whole ad. I've heard all the other crazy stuff before, but that was a new one for me.

Sounds good lady. I came home from work early, feeling terrible. There's some nasty bugs going around and seems like its caught up to me. Grr.

Hopefully I will have a bit more time towards the end of the week since I'll be ending this string of days in a row. I'll have a whole three days off, but its gonna be busy! Goin down to Gardner for the exotic auction where I got those awesome Black Birchen Pullets last spring. I also have the big meeting with the poultry club here to finalize all the details for the show. I'll feel so much better once that's over. We aren't far off now, but still working out some of the kinks with how things were being done before.

Quote: You don't have to make a push to look at them, really when you have time. It just works better for me to send a few at a time. I don't have too many in the back, 8 it looks like. I have some more in the front pen too, all blacks. Am am really liking this copper.... It is SOOOO PRETTY! I just need you to help me pick roos. I don't think I am seeing much that says DON'T BREED ME.... except the one with split wing. Not sure where that came from either. I did some culling as they were growing out... maybe too hard. I culled the mossy chicks, but they are looking GOOD from the info I am getting and seeing from BYCers.

What about the white fluff on the blue pullet? I have a black pullet that has a few white tips and on her feet, but I will wait till she molts to figure out what is going on with her.

I got pics of that Splash Cuckoo roo too. AND I have some decent looking cuckoo pullets I can work with too. I may not be as far away from cuckoo now as I was.

I can't tell ya about the white fluff on your blue pullet. I usually hatch enough that I'm very picky about what I keep, so any white fluff and etc gets culled. I really think this is how I've been able to work at drastically reducing the amount of white in my stock. The chicks still have the tuxedo look when they hatch, but the occurance of white past the fuzz stage is much less.
