Try this getting on it through this address: http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html It's the best source for information on breeding different color varieties I've found so far. What color varieties of Marans are you considering mixing? Maybe I can help you. Jeff

Kathy has a really good question Jeff on whether the black copper offspring of a Blue Copper/Black Copper would be pure Black Copper and at first when I ran it in the calculator I thought the genotype of the offspring was the same but now I just noticed it is different from a straight Black Copper bird

Crazy.....I didn't know that.
Hoping Amazondoc comes by to share her wisdom. Thanks for posting that Drom! Glad to hear things are going well with the Suro.

Ok, I'm confused now Pink Chick. Definitely, the Kip Calculator said 50%/50% on the Blue and Splash mating but the resulting Black Copper/Blue Copper mating gave me a Black Copper genotype that was slightly different than a Black Copper/ Black Copper mating. At first I thought they were identical, but then I noticed they wern't

The calculator only knows what you tell it to start with

The difference appears to be Mh.

My guess is that the make-up of the Blue Copper is Mh/Mh and would result in Mh/Mh Black Coppers.

The only difference between the black and blue coppers theoretically should be in the Blue Gene.

Then again, I may be wrong

Oh shoot, I forgot to put in there .... I have both blue hens and splash hens, with the blue roo. Doesn't Blue x Blue = 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash ???? (These are non copper, if that means anything). IF that is accurate, would they be plain black Marans?

lol I have a blue copper in with my blacks

actuelly was just about to post pics anyway of them enjoying the new spring weather today
