Drom, your farm looks so beautiful. Pretty big fence for little birdies. You must have some 4 legged friends.

Ha-yes it's over 5ft and it's vinyl and putting it in is the smartest thing I've ever done. It's really safe fencing for the horses and absolutely NO maintenance. which stressed-out, over-busy people like me love.

Unfortunately, it doesn't keep dogs or raccoons out.

So, the birds are only turned out in the pasture in the day when I am around.

Your birds are amazing! I love how they are strolling on the grass. I would let mine onto my grass but they would be a doggie snack, so they stay in their own yard. DH says where chickens are, grass isnt. Wish I could get grass to grow in their acre??

What a lovely space you have!! Thank you so much for sharing!

Well, they are only out there when I am watching them. But the Marans are so good. They stick together and don't wonder too far and as soon as the sun sets they make a dash for their coop and put themselves to bed. They even come when I call them most of the time. I haven't yet let my other 3 pullets (EE, BR and Buttercup) out loose yet. They just aren't tame like that. If they didn't feel like coming back to the coop they would never let me catch them. They would end up as snacks for sure...

Well the 3 that have pipped all have holes big enough for me to see their cute little beaks!

I'm in love already! Now if the other 2 would pip and they'd all hatch I could breathe again!

Yeah, my broody wasn't broody when I got these eggs, but she is now and has 8 eggs under her that I don't plan on touching at all!

I'm up to 21 babies. 3 of them are BC Marans and the other 2 BCMs are pipped!! I might just get all 5 of the ones I have left! One of the ones that hatched seems weak, but I'm going to baby her and make her live!

ETA: You won't believe how much brown/copper the first one out has on him. I guess that's my roo! Noe for his 4 pullets...

Thats great! You know 4 of my 6 chicks had copper tips and highlights on their feathers; the cockerels and one of the pullets.

So don't count your pullets yet!

Glad to hear you've got some hatched out of those pretty eggs!
