Illia I don't know if this helps but I have hatched a lot of glossy eggs with no problem, however I did have a chicken with the same eye problem... I chalked it up to humidity originally but it could just be an issue in the Davis line. I would ask Bev about it. I only had it show up one time, however the chicken was blind in both eyes...Too bad as it was my best blue copper...Ask pinkchick about hatching the Lavender eggs... They have a really thick coating on them... If anything would be difficulty to hatch it would be those I would think... as they have a super thick bloom on them... so much so that it changes the appearance of the egg color. I have the same thing, I have never hatched them. I get lots of glossies and they hatch just fine.
Sorry for taking so long to answer... I hope this helps. Are they from your chickens or are they shipped? If they are from yours that would be a good "experiment" to find out and share. You get a couple of cutting boards made out of mylar and cut them to use in a foam bator 1588 or whatever.. You collect your egg for 4 or 5 days from each hen and mark them... Set them according to each hen in the divided bator...(you can do 4 hens at a time easily) You can keep track of hatch rates etc this way (band them as you take them out or divide them into separate tanks)...I will find my camera and send you a pic of what I rigged up.
About the flopping comb... It looks straight up and down to me and some of the combs get very large and still stand straight up... so
