Those are really cute chicks!

In comparison to my own:

I know my Black Copper Cockeral is a weenie (slow developer and a mommas boy) but his comb is BARELY that pronounced even now! And he's a teenager!! None of my girls have a comb like that at all yet. Maybe its just the line of birds yours came from, but my first thought was they're all roosters, unless MAYBE the one on the far left, with the smallest comb.

Where is the copper dispersed on their feathers? I was looking for that too, but the flash lightens their color too much for me to see it....My rooster had it more spread out on his body, the hens on their necks only...a couple of flecks on their wings went away when they got bigger.

Good thing she's willing to make it work! That seems really fair! I hope the majority is wrong here, and you keep the ones you have! I get attached, even to the boys!

They have more copper than showed up in the pics. It's mostly on the breast, although not all their feathers are in yet. I'm already getting attached...don't know how I'm going to cull if they all start crowing! Guess I'll figure it out when I get there. They decided I was their new best friend when I brought them a piece of bread earlier!

If they were all hatched at the same time, I would say there may be at least 2 hens in there (2nd photo front right and back right). Its hard to see the one with its back to us, but I would say there are at least 3 roos in there too (2nd photo front left, middle and middle left). Our coppers historically haven't showed a lot of color until there about 8-10 weeks old so I wouldn't be concerned about that. JMO...

Well I have missed alot of action here in a couple of days!

Kelly, alot of those are roos. I think I see at least one pullet. Post pics of the ones with smaller combs please. How old are these? I agree about the color. You really cannot expect to know the true color until they are 6 months to a year. Keep us posted.

MNKRIS- beautiful eggs!

Here are pics of some of our 6 week old Copper Black Marans chicks. As hatchlings, most times the girls have less white and their combs are generally darker/black. I have had one or two pullets that had white combs, but in generel the cockerels have lighter combs. I have been able to sex them almost immediately.

The first is a cockerel.

Funny how they hang out by gender.

Hope this helps.

Kelly, those look like mostly cockerels. Were they supposed to be straight run? Looks like they did a "straight run" out to the chicken house and picked out all the big combed chicks to send you! What a shame!

These are going into the incubater tomorrow
