Thanks, Tina~I ended up with 3 ladies and 3 gents so I may have to re-home 1 of the guys. I'm just so attached to them! I have 43 hens and 7 roos in that pen but so far no fighting. Of course they're still babies. I may have to find a home for 1 welsie roo, 1 cuckoo marans and 1 partridge cochin~~either that or set up a bachelor pad!

I still have some mixed roos to rehome but I have a hard time, cause like you say, you get attached, and also, they're just so prettty. A couple of mine are the prettiest red and blue colors, and I'm so partial to blues!
Good luck on decision making! If I could, I would probably just make a bachelor pad! I need the space and the feed! I have to reduce my focus to Egg Color, Egg Production, Pure Breeds, Family Pets(really friendly), and Special Needs. Anything that doesnt meet that catagory, leaves. Some that did but I have too many of, still leave!

Have been reading the posts and just wondering if any of you put your culled out roos in the freezer? If so how old are they at that time? I have 3 out of 5 I plan to keep. These Cuckoo Marans are about 16 weeks I got them 7th of July as day old chicks.

Schultzie is the on the right he has the best comb of all of the Cuckoo Marans, this is 1 of the 10 Pullets. The other Roo is going to go.

LeRoy with some of the others I think he is a Barred cross, he and 2 of the pullets have the yellow legs and beak.

I would say that those roosters are big enough how is their weight ? those a pretty birds I love my cuckoo marans hens. Eat the rooster with the yellow leggs and beak in the background of one of the pics marans are supposed to have white legs and the girls have a bit of a dark line down the front.

I'm no help to you for sure. I only have 6 birds and I have never culled anything because, as stated before on another post, I am a great big weenie! So I will keep my 6 BCs until they are old and have gray feathers! I am just hoping

they will lay nice eggs.


And, I think Leroy is awfully cute-even if he does have yellow legs.

There was a big rain storm un here this weekend and today it was even worse. It really poured. AGGGGGH- I am not looking forward to dealing with the mud and muddy horses! I need a big fancy barn with those beautiful rubber paving stones and someone to muck my stalls

The chickens are soooo darn easy. I turned them out in the rain and they ran around and loved it. They got pretty wet but when they came in I realized they were really dirty before! Their feathers are sooo shiny and clean now they feel like satin.

Gotta a question DH noticed this morning that it seems at least one of our chickens has the squirts, What could be the cause?
I did give them some pulled tomato plants and they ate bugs like crazy and some of the tomatoes still on the vines but they really didn't eat the vines or too many leaves because there is quite a bit to clean back out of the run. We have not changed feed. But have not wormed, could this be the cause or should I not get too conserned yet? And what type of wormer would you recemend? Thanks any suggestions would be appreachated.

I too am dealing with muck and horses!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been begging my dh for months to muck their pen with the tractor, and he says yes, but never does it.

Chickens are easy!!!!!!!!!! I so agree and you can have soooooooooo many more babies and not feel guilty!

Karenleaf, I read too many tomatoes or other fruits and veggies can give them the runs......seems as though that is a likely cause. Good luck!
