She is so adorable! I hope she can eventually gain full mobility! She has a good caretaker. Thank you for being so compassionate.

I have one that has to spend his whole day in a small cage (Sounds cruel - Hope I dont get in trouble for that!) He doesnt do well in a larger cage because he bumps into things too hard. He likes this one because it has a little cabin/house attached, he loves going in there to get away! He doesnt go outside except for supervised outings. He was stepped on by my Llama and the brain damage was permanent, he can only walk mostly sideways, sometimes forward, and his head bobs up and down. He has permanent palsey. He eats and drinks really messy! He's a white frizzle roo, and he's very sweet, but he'll never join the flock. They attack him when they see him.

Anyhow, I dont think the feedstores care about the quality of their stock, they're just in to sales for money...but you should still tell them how you feel! You were definitely mislead!

Besides, Your blue/Green egg laying/barred patterned birds is actually a very desireable trait! You may be a little disappointed in the lack of pretty brown, but you actually have somewhat of a "golden egg" in the "Barred Blue/Green Egg Layer" genetics!! Thats too cool! That's not something you see every day.....you will generate alot of interest in that, you just wait.

Tina

Thanks Tina, the feed store is in a small town in our county and I know the owner so I am hoping this will help her, her store has only been open just over a year.
And thanks for the golden egg, I am glad to know something besides pretty blue and green eggs may come of this.

Yes all the pullets look quite a bit like Ms. Cluck, there are a couple with bit bigger combs and waddles. But all are barred.
Thanks again for the comments.

Well, chickens that lay blue eggs have pea combs, so do any of your chickens have a pea comb?

Do you mean that the ones with the peacombs lay "colored eggs" because I have a couple of chickens that have peacombs and they lay green eggs not the blue.

I'm not expert, and I only own one laying hen with a pea comb, and her eggs are green, but I don't think the pea comb guarantees green eggs. In Ameraucanas the standard is for pea combs, so all the birds that inherited the pea comb from an ameraucana ancestor has a chance to inherit the blue egg gene (which looks green if it is added to brown egg color) but each generation there is a fifty fifty chance that they may not inherit the blue egg gene.

the peacomb is linked to the biue gene, the green is a result of a brown egg layer cross with the blue. At least that is what I found when researching my breeds. That is why you get a nice olive if you cross the true ameraucana(or araucana) with a marans

do you know if it is 100% linked, as in if has a toothy comb, no green eggs? That would simplify my chick choosing for sure if it was true!

Don't ask me, I don't know anymore.
I have an easter egger that has a pea comb and is laying regular green eggs.
Then I have what someone who sold to me as an americauna with a low single comb, who is really probably an easter egger.
Someone else sold me 2 araucanas, both have pea combs and tails, and they are suppose to be rumpless so I have no idea what I even have anymore.
Those two came from her hatchery stock so there is no way they are purebreds and I have no idea what color egg they will lay either.

I had my first Black Copper Marans eggs today. There were two little eggs in the nest! It is November and six degrees here today! What are they thinking??

I have heat sources in their pen and they are in an insulated barn. I guess they thought it was cozy enough to start?? :idunnoThe eggs were nice--not as dark as I had hoped for, but they were the little pullet eggs.

I think they are so cute!

Anyway, I am excited! I cleaned out my hatching room in the basement today and am getting a bator ready in case I get some nice big, beautiful eggs before they realize it is winter here!!!!

I have been waiting for some dark brownsalso but I have ended up so far with blue, white and green eggs from a few of my pullets. It has become quite an egg puzzle. I think only 3 out of the 9 are laying so far so I'm still hoping.

How far in Iowa are you? I live 6 miles south of the Iowa line in central part of Missouri.

I second the wait and see. I had two start out very disappointing light tan and one has become a very acceptable color, not dark brick red, but nice medium brown with speckles. The other... still a ways to go I'm afraid. She has laid far fewer eggs, so maybe she is just behind on her count... we can only hope. I have hatched a few of those light eggs anyhow, just to see if the next generation does any better. If not... well... her eggs will go to the dogs, if not in the frying pan.
