Very true. I have some silkies that just aren't old enough yet, but hopefully a pullet will go broody for me. Although I pay very close attention to my eggs and have the hova with turner and fan it just apparently wasn't meant to be. I think a broody hen would probably do it better than me anytime

Like you said though keep practicing and you'll find the right recipe. Good luck on those Serama eggs

very good! you will have chicks! She is so nice... isn't she?
Hey, better late than never...
How's that little partridge silkie looking, girlish, or boyish?

Lol... I still can't tell. It looks like a pullet, but just may be a roo. The white showgirl is for sure my roo because he's crowing and trying to mount the white silkie which is for sure a pullet. He doesn't try to get the partridge showgirl. The little one I want to say pullet, but it's to early to tell.

Donna is a wonderful person and I am glad I invested in her stock. I will be patiently waiting for the phone call!

Was mostly having some fun, I havent sent eggs out to anyone who wanted pure Marans for a while, and they are free when I do, with a disclaimer - about their color and quality - although I hadnt considered their lack of purity unil Mr. Bleu grew up and started getting frisky with me?? Anyhooo, the OEGB's are going into their own pen...I've been selling the Cuckoo Marans eggs to eat because I havent got anyone on a list asking for any right now? So I'll wait a few weeks. (You know, free for the cost of shipping??) Just thought I'd show you their new little friend. He's one of mine, I need to put him back in the barn, dont know how he got in here....The Cuckoo Marans seem to be partial to having "little" chickens hanging around??

And Mr. Cuckoo can always say NO! Go Away! But he's a pushover.

He's a doll! He barely gets perturbed when I take his pic , pick him up, or smooch his wattles either. I'm awful about letting my chickens sleep.
Then again, my roosters cant tell time, so paybacks are a *BLEEEP <-------------censored-------. They crow at all hours of the night sometimes. So I like to pester them with affection!

The light ones are way to light but your right they may be very far along in the laying cycle the dark ones look great

I wouldn't hatch the light ones. Whether or not they are Marans eggs, you need to always hatch only the darkest -- or you will end up losing the egg color altogether.

I don't think I ever posted here, but I ended up with six baby chicks (wheaten) from my hatch last week. Now I'm waiting for their wing feathers to grow in, so I can tell how many cockerels and pullets I've got!
