So does anyone here have marans with comb springs? This has been a discusion recentely on the yahoo marans group. Just curious to see how common it is.

No sprigs, but I did pull out one roo whose comb flopped over to one side in the front, before it had even grown very large.

I had a non marans roo whose comb did that, now it just popped back up. No idea why

I have a hen with minimal comb sprigs and a halfway shade of white to the earlobes. I assume she is a Penedesenca cross. She supposedly came from Ray Valentine. She is also small frame and flighty, which further leads me to think that she is a cross. Feel free to cross post my info if you like.

What exactly IS a comb spring? Do you have pictures of it?
Sorry to sound ignorant about it but I've never heard that term.
Thanks.

Look on the yahoo marans group in the pictures. You will find it there.

Just a small correction: the word is "sprig", not "spring". "Sprig" means a small branch, or part of a branch (in plants). So a sprig on a rooster's comb is a small branch/protrusion off the side of the main comb structure.
