Please, show me your ducks

Pics
hi
I know this thread has not been used in a while but I told @Papaye that I would post pictures of my male call ducks when they molted into their true colours

It’s the 2 black bibbed call ducks (they have brown winter feathers and I didn’t have any good pictures of them in their black summer feathers)

Oh how Cute they are!!! I have 6 Call Ducks in with all of my flock and they are the littles that I love so much. My ratio is off with them as I have 3 males and 3 females but my males also go after my bigger ducks so it has worked out well. I had a black bibbed one but gave it away because of too many males. Very pretty duckies!!!

Your ratio is way better than mine is!
I have 8 call ducks and only 2 of them are girls!
I hatched them all and love them to bits.
I have them in 2 pens (for the girls safety) the pictures are of my boy pen and I have a girl pen which has my 2 girls and their brother
I am moving at the moment but my plan once we have moved is to get them girls and build them a massive pen with a huge pond

I made a post about the move if you wanted to check it out

I lost most of my older ducks over the winter only had 2 of the Blue Swedish left so I ordered 16 new Khaki Campbell ducklings all female. The older ducks are very happy to have new ducks around since they got big enough to introduce to the older birds.

Hi!

Thank you.

I really appreciate the fact you have taken the time to post these pictures...
...and I am sorry for replying so late : I have not logged in for a while now.

I am really amazed by these feathers colour : it looks more Chocolate than Black!
It only makes the contrast with the green(ish) head prettier, in my opinion.

My Welsh Harlequins (1 adult duck and 3 7 week old ducklings)

Ooooh... they are beautiful!

Do you have pictures of them now?

Sorry for you loss...

I can't imagine the desperation (and disappointment) of losing several ducks in one season!
(What happened, exactly? A fox? A raccon? An illness? ...Old age?)

...Thank you for the pictures.
(Khaki Campbell are amazing ducks!)

I don’t know what happened to all of them I did find a couple dead mostly it was just piles of feathers left so most likely foxes or coyotes.

Yeah they do look brownish. Oh well, they really are black bibbed but apparently they want to be brown.
This is them as babies/teenagers

sorry for your loss, predators are the worst.

Hello.

Showing off my younger Splash Indian Runners hens...

(Both of them are born in my yard last Spring.)

Here is my lighter coloured Splash girl :

DSC02793.JPG

She is mostly white, but she actually has very pale, grayish feathers splattered on her plumage.
(So : she is NOT dirty on this picture!)

Her bill is black, and her leg are kind of dark - NOT orange.

And her juvenile plumage was white...

Now... the other Splash girl :

DSC03359.JPG

Her plumage is pale gray.
She has small dots of white feathers on her chest, that she has inherited from her Blue father... and some pale, brownish patches on her plumage that are similar to the black patch we can see on Blue coloured ducks.

Her bill is black, and her legs are darkish.

...Her juvenile plumage was pale gray - NOT WHITE...

I think this colour, such as, is what is specifically called "Pearl Grey"? But DON'T take my word for it!

Before this girl started quacking, I was persuaded that Splash was actually a colour sexable by the juvenile plumage!
I thought, indeed, that a white juvenile plumage meant the Splash duckling was a girl, and a pale gray juvenile plumage meant the Splash duckling was a boy...
But clearly, I WAS MISTAKEN!!

(Both of the Splash girls at the center of the picture!)

I don’t know what happened to all of them I did find a couple dead mostly it was just piles of feathers left so most likely foxes or coyotes.

Ugh... it had to be painful...
I am sincerely sorry for you.

Are you not afraid what has killed your ducks will do it again?
Can you do something or get help...?

Yeah they do look brownish. Oh well, they really are black bibbed but apparently they want to be brown.

And they really are Black...!!

I have Black Runners that lighten during Spring...
...Their feathers turn brownish, but NOTHING compared with your ducks!

Thinking about it : do you think your boys could, in fact, carry Brown?
And that it could explain the fact they look more Chocolate that Black...?
