I love your Wheatons too! Wheatons are still on my wish list, but I am not smooosie enough to get ahold of good quality ones, which I want, and always put my foot in my mouth when I ask if people are gonna have eggs...so I have quit asking if people will have them or sell them, etc...whatever. Some day later on I will get the right ones.

I still just keep giving my Marans eggs away when I have them (Cuckoo Marans) and I am waiting for my Black Coppers to start laying again (they are mad that I penned them up) I think they have either stopped all together or they are dining on their own products! Except that I have an Easter Egger in with them who lays a large, pretty green egg almost every day. And it's always there, so unless they have an aversion to green eggs, they just ARENT laying!!

One day I may raise the price of my eggs from free to something, I suppose. My husband wishes I would, but it makes me feel tacky. I love my birds, and I love to share their babies! When I talk with them about it, (yes, the chickens) we still agree to just ship em out....making people pay for them sounds stressful!! Right now, its fun! No responsibility if I goof up (I did once, I gave a friend a chicken egg instead of a duck)....

So right now - I have Black Copper Marans, decent lines - Cuckoo Marans - a Variety of lines, just added 4 pullets from feather legged lines/Kelly Cratty - 8 new Blue/Black Copper (1 Blue 7 Black) from Whitmore Farms - excellent sturdy chicks - and I have 16 eggs in the bator - 4 Silver Cuckoo Marans and 12 Blue Cuckoo Marans.

And of course, I'm on Bev Davis's list. For this year, I think.

I need to update my pages again!

This is Big Boy, my rescue Cuckoo Maran Roo. He was going to be turned into canned meat if the owner didn't find a home for him and I'm so glad we got him! He's ten months old and as sweet as can be. It took 4 days before he would crow or eat from my hand. His butt feathers are almost all grown back in (older roos at his first home had pecked his feathers out) and he has settled in nicely with all of our 2 yr old Hens. I want to get some Cuckoo Maran pullets next :)

We're also hoping to add some Golden Cuckoo Marans to our chicken yard this year...if we can find them LOL

He is so cute! And what a lovely story, that makes him so much more precious! My Cuckoo Rooster is such a neat guy too, he wouldnt let the Evil Snowball ever give me any evil business in the pet area, he is so protective, and sweet! I am so happy for your rooster! I wish you were closer, I would give you a couple of my girls! I have a couple of my "regular" girls that I am going to keep, but put in the pet area as just egg layers now that I have the Kelly Cratty lines to add to my breeding pen...they would be wonderful for your guy! Darn! (Not old, just 1.5, and lay a 4-5 on the scale mostly)...but I'll keep em...I just like your story!

Hope you find your pullets and Golden Cuckoos. Nivtup is doing excellent work with his lines, I recommend contacting him or reading that thread at least, and see whats going on.

Want to send me some of those Cuckoo eggs?

I don't even mind paying for them! My only Cuckoo that I had got killed by the neighbor's dog last weekend, as well as 2 of my Black Coppers.

I still have 3 Black Coppers that are getting close to old enough to lay, but only one of them is a hen now. I have 8 younger ones, as well as one Blue Copper cockerel. I have the Wheaten eggs in the bator as well as a few Black Coppers, all from Backwoods Poultry (Cottage Hill lines).

Oh Kelly, that stinks about the losses. So sorry.

I hope this doggie thing was a one time accident as opposed to a habitual thing.....

My wheatens are from Buddy also, Kelly. I am a little disappointed as they aren't all feather shanked. My roo is, so hopefully I can get that trait going. The egg color was about a 5-6. I am on Bev's list as well. Maybe I will be here when Katy puts some of her eggs on the BST. Hers look nice.

Our Wheatens are also from Backwoods Poultry.

All but one cockerel have feathered shanks. We hatched out 7 and managed to have 4 pullets.

We also have Wheaten/Blue Wheaten growing out that are from Bev's lines one sererated. All feathered shanks.
