I put an ad on Craigslist for CBM eggs $10/per egg today. I already got a call! (missed it, the phone was in the kitchen, shucks, but he left his number to call back. i will call him tomorrow.) I thought I would try this unique marketing approach. I have ten sitting in the kitchen. i would rather have a hundred dollar bill sitting there... LOL. I got six eggs today! I keep meaning to show you pics of the grand eggs, but I never get around to it They look great!

Shmoo, who did you get your eggs from? This might tell us something. How long have they been laying. Eggs that light are not a good indication they will be dark layers. Tell us more about the color, the line, etc.
Tina, what a handsome roo.
And Drom, the baby pics are precious. I love that cockerel falling asleep.
OTS, good luck with your egg venture! California prices seem reasonable. Considering what folks pay for shipped eggs that don't hatch seems reasonable. And oh, my taking back the roos? That is awesome! .
I want to give Nivtup (I ALWAYS think niptuck) Kudos for his nice dark golden cuckoo eggs that got here in 2 days. I am so excited to hatch these! The color is great!

Did they ever lay an egg w/color? How many "dud" eggs have you gotten? If that's all they've ever laid, I wouldn't breed them and would keep them as laying hens. If it's just been a couple of "misfires," I would wait and see what happens. Sometimes a hen just has some wonky eggs, and then things straighten out. I sometimes have pullets whose first few eggs are light (though they usually have speckles), then they get into the groove and lay a normal egg. Sometimes stress will cause a hen to drop some weird eggs. And sometimes, a hen just doesn't lay a Marans egg. From great lines doesn't always equate to lays great eggs.
It certainly increases your chances, but there is SO much to breeding Marans/egg color that is unknown. Sometimes, for whatever reason, when you cross two parent birds out of great lines that lay great eggs, you lose egg color.
It's part of what makes Marans so darn frustrating.

I LOVE your ad! Great job! And thank you for putting the education/expaination in with the cost etc...and your generousity to the roosters! It helps curb the fear of hatching for alot of folks who dont want to because of that very reason! Good call! You've covered every angle - Now you need about 100 more hens! You are in the Biznizz now!
I need to go round up my Whitmore Farms brats and get a pic or two! One is actually a Blue Copper! The others are Black Copper. I think the Blue one may be a Rooster, but I didnt say that. Nothing at Tfpets Place is a Rooster until it Crows. Family Policy.
My husband put a ringer on my new cell phone - It crows now - Try having that go off in the middle of the day in your office??? And then, I get a call from Building Security - there's a chicken running loose in the parking lot. What, did they think it was mine? Nah, they just wanted me to help catch it, broken ankle and all, cause they know I love chickens??? Never did, someone else got it and it disappeared. Good thing - it was a fighting bird - not very mixable with my pets.
