New2chicks: Great pics!

I'm just barely starting in Marans so I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in.

From what I've been reading, By himself, your roo, while totally gorgeous looks like has too much red/copper. But I understand that if your pullet doesn't have enough red that they kind of even each other out nicely in the offspring.

I say with as difficult and expensive as it is to find BCM's he's definitly worth a shot. What have you got to loose except the expense of feeding some cute little babies?

Rockpile - Thanks for the good advice! I thought he had too much copper, especially on his breast, but I liked his body type, tail angle, leg feathering, and comb. the female I have for him is a little bit younger, but she has just a little bit of copper in her hackles, otherwise she is black, so maybe... Hopefully some more people will chime in who have worked with BC marans for a while and point out his other faults.

Here are a couple of pics of cockerels hatched last Februrary. They appear to have pretty decent coloring. I really like the lacing on the blue copper. In the picture, it appears that he has yellow legs, but in reality they are cream-white/pinkish. Not the best leg color, but he seems to have so much else going on that I have to keep him, lol.

I also like the coloring of the black copper. Nice even copper hackles and saddles, without much yellow or gold. They're far from perfect, but I'm never gonna show them. and they are great tempered birds.

Noticing all the roos in that pen, has anyone tried to introduce new roos into their communal housing? I know they generally do fine if they are raised together, but we have two different batches of chicks, about a month apart, and I'm not sure what to expect when we add the second batch to the coop. Any thoughts or suggestions? These are black, bc and blue marans.

I have a splash pullet from Bev Davis lines via bishopschickens. So far no copper is showing on her neck but I think she will do okay with the roo I have. I just really like the roo in the pic. What lines are your splash pullets from? Got pix?
