Wow... that sucks... not exactly breaking even on the feed at that rate.. ha ha

I got a couple dozen anyway... didn't count but i filled a few cartons i only have about 1/2 the flock under lights.

I sold all my "original," (hatchery) stock just as I was getting 3 dozen eggs a day. I had 44 of them, and sold them to make room for my breeder stock. It is like starting all over .... again, waiting for eggs! May, 2009 was the first time I have ever even had chickens! We started out, "just for eggs!"

If I hadn't found BYC, I would have been happy to just get eggs each day.

Now, my oldest ones in grow out pen # 1 are 18 weeks old. They are the Jersey Giants, 6 Cochins, and the dozen variety of Marans I bought (blue, BCM, birchen???). Oh, except for my 5 hatchery Easter Eggers that I kept. They lay one egg a day, between the 5 of them!

AND, I have 1 Cuckoo Marans that is over a year old (Shirley). She escaped when my buyer came to pick the others up. She is out of molt, and looking beautiful .............. BUT, has not resumed laying!

I have several brooders and grow out pens now,

and no eggs.

WOW so sad Kathyinmo.... I would gladly share my eggs...It is kinda a chore to get them all eaten.. My nieghbors help... We eat a lot of french toast.. My son has a hollow leg so that helps quite a bit.. I even scramble them and feed them back to the flock for extra protein. The standard cochins take forever and the Jersey Giants also to mature into layers... I don't know why your americaunas wouldn't be laying better except for the NO LIGHT!!!! Spring is coming... I can almost smell the yardwork.

Of course I know how many birds I have but it's always fun to hear him answer for me when people ask how many birds I do have....."Uh...she doesn't really know how many she has...I think it's less than a hundred though." I just smile and say nothing. He really is too cute when he has no clue what he is talking about.

I tried to tell him once that he could count the numbered bandettes on the birds and then go see how many bandettes I have left in the package if he really wanted to know, LOL. ......

BTW...I have less than 200.
