I thought that a B/B/S bird was considered "split" with something? If you bred two black siblings would you only get black offspring? Could you get any other color due to their parentage (blue in there)?

Fantastic looking eggs! What line did they come from?

Wade Jeanne lines.

Not surprising. Wade Jeanne birds lay some of the darkest eggs but need a lot of work to consistently meet the proposed APA standards. That's what I have. Mine all lay nice dark eggs but I'm only getting about 1 in 10 that are keepers for my breeding stock. Black Coppers Marans are a great breed if you like a breeding challenge.

If your birds are solid black then they don't have any blue genes in them. If they did, they would be blue instead of black. As Amazondoc stated, a black marans should be extended black (E/E). A birchen (ER/ER) aka black copper that looks black has too many melanizers in it and can't be considered a black. A (ER/E) bird could look black also. If black birds have any copper showing through (usually in the neck feathers) they aren't (E/E) true black. Sometimes the copper color doesn't show up until they get their adult plumage.

Blue and Lavender are two completely different genes. I think it would be a bad idea to introduce a lavender orpington to black marans. It would take years to get the marans back up to standard. The standard colors of marans need so much work now, why create another mess?

I have a black with a small amount of copper in her hackle. So I suppose she is considered a BC?

Could someone help me decide which one should be top cock?

The brothers are (5) months old. They are from Bev Davis and Julie Gabbard lines. One has more feathering on legs and and a lighter colored hackle, He is already doing his JOB!

I have them in with my (3) BCs, (1) Golden Salmon and (4) Jean Wade pullets.

I can't really tell from the pic, but if she has copper feathers then yes, she is probably a BC with too many melanizers.

Okay, here once again is the breakdown for working with the blue gene:

black = bl+/bl+
blue = Bl/bl+
splash = Bl/Bl

black x black --> 100% black chicks
black x blue --> 50% black chicks, 50% blue chicks
black x splash --> 100% blue chicks
blue x blue --> 25% black chicks, 50% blue chicks, 25% splash chicks
blue x splash --> 50% blue chicks, 50% splash chicks
splash x splash --> 100% splash chicks
