Well they are as cute as they can be. Now you just have to watch them grow.

Does anybody here have a flock of Splash Marans, not B/B/S, but all Splash? And want to cough up a couple dozen hatchin' eggs for some cashola?

I'm not really sure what I tink of the spotted eggs, unless it's some sort of indication that the hen can do better, but I'm going to roll with the ideas presented by that dude Resolution a while back. I'm the predator and I'm eating lighter eggs, thus selecting for dark eggs. Except in this case, I'm not eating the lighter eggs, I'm just ditching those peeps.

Now these are some spotted eggs I can roll with...

Those are from Cuckoo Marans...but I didn't get custody of them. I'm dying to take one of my future baby roosters over there for a visit, though.

I have 2 beautiful splash hens .... but no splash roo! I have a blue roo!

hmmm...Blue X Splash = 50% Blue 50% Splash

I like those odds, but the shipping is what kills it because I'm assuming at 25% hatch rate for shipped eggs, that's why I want 2 dozen.

Thanks.. I use a Sharpie, "Terrell Owens-style". I do feel super-lucky to have found a local source for these...shipped eggs can be soooo heartbreaking.

Oh man........wish I could help ya out here but I only have one gal laying right now and the others won't be laying for a few months. I recently switched out my Marans flock and rehomed some Splash gals that were not pulling their weight in the egg color dept. and I just wasn't happy with their type, so off they went.
I am collecting eggs for the remainder of the week from my Copper Black gals (and a few select eggs from my Splash gal) that have been crossed with my Splash and Copper Blue boys.........hoping for as many Copper Blues and Splashes as I can get out of this hatch as they will hopefully be the building blocks to a new and another flock for next year.

Drom~
Here's hoping that your bator shows up unexpectedly today.......I know its a long shot.... but

i know nothing about hatching eggs ( hatching less than 60 or so ever ) but i thought that would bother the eggs penatrating all the way threw the shell like the sharpie
or the ink would do something ... well im still new to all this

I think in the "Olden Days" inks used to be more toxic. But these days inks are non-toxic, and it doesn't seem to hurt a thing. I usually mark my eggs with Sharpie as well.
